THE ROLE OF THE WOMEN IN THE SOCIETY

The role of the women in our society has changed significantly in the past three decades. Women have many more opportunities and face different changes. Gone were the days when women sat at home, managing the house and looking after the children. I firmly believe that today women have been given bigger role to play in the society. They are ensured with more responsibility than their male counter parts. To begin with, women slowly started to move outside home and persuade education in equal terms with males and with this women literacy rate improved tremendously. Subsequently, women slowly started to participate in the all walks of life. Women started to think independently and participated equally in the outside world along with their male counterparts. Slowly and steadily discriminating women on the basis of gender diminished, as women won applause in all the fields of life including politics, sports and even in defense services. Secondly, women of today are standing up and being counted. They work in the army, and have rebuilt damaged satellites in space. Being a woman no longer excludes you from doing any job carried out by a male. Young women enjoy having their own income and are choosing to fulfill their career ambitions instead of or before they consider having a family. Education is playing a big part in full transition to workplace equality. Nowadays, for example, women are educated to the same level as or exceeding the level of their counterparts. They are ambitious and have the law behind them, which should protect against discrimination. Moreover, the high cost of living in modern society has put the family in the position where both adults must work full time job to survive. While many people do this purely to obtain a lot of possessions, many do so out of necessity. There is absolutely nothing wrong with women working a job outside home. The problem occurs when, after coming home from work, both parents do not put in an equal amount of energy into the home. Often, the woman is left with all responsibilities with the children and house chores. In addition to this, women play such an important part in the life of the family. The value is beyond measure. No amount of money can adequately compensate a woman for her work. Words cannot express what women mean to the success of their husband and children. But women are valuable. They are not second rating. They are not inferior. They are not weak. For instance, giving birth to children, putting up the daily pressures of life, dealing with the demands of children, maintaining a good relationship with her husband, and she often works a full time job on top of all that would drive man to their grave. Women are truly strong in their ability to handle it all. On the other hand, society has set men and women apart by labeling them. It is common for men to be seen as strong and women to be seen as weak. The culture thinks that women cannot do jobs like

men do; such as firefighters or policemen and if they do these jobs, the culture looks at these women in a negative side because these jobs are masculine and women are not supposed to do these jobs. Furthermore, culture defines a woman as a sensitive person; however in order to obtain these jobs, you have to be aggressive and tough and a woman is not like that. The female-male wage gap is a very objective representation of an accepted form of male dominance, whether it is fair or not. Taking all this into consideration, I would say that the position of the women has improved, they become more independent and they are by all means the creators of their own destiny. They are ensure with more responsibility and although the discrimination is still present in the culture women are ready to compete every day and gain the respect they deserve.
