Torque limits for mounting screws

Do not exceed the maximum torque limits for the mounting screws when you install the DIN rails and DeltaV S-series and CHARMs hardware.
Hardware DIN rail stop Power terminations on carriers Terminal block field terminations CHARM terminals Torque limit on mounting screw 0.9 Nm (8 in-lb) 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb) 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb) 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb)

Wiring guidelines
Stranded or solid wire and shielded or twisted pair wire can be used with a DeltaV system. Stranded or solid wire The power and grounding terminals and field termination points on the carriers' terminal blocks are 2.8 mm by 2.5 mm (2.8 mm x 2.5 mm). The maximum recommended wire size for the terminals is 14 AWG, stranded or solid gauge wire or a 14 AWG ferrule. To select wire, calculate the maximum current limit expected for each wire and refer to your local electrical codes that define the wire size required for a specific current. Shielded or twisted pair wire Shielded twisted pair wiring is recommended for low-level signal wiring to reduce susceptibility to noise. A shield ground bar to isolate and drain field noise away from the DeltaV system is integrated into the 8-Wide I/O Carrier and the CHARM Baseplate.

CHARMs Smart Logic Solver (CSLS) SIS hardware overview

CSLS SIS hardware consists of: CHARMs CSLS process LS CHARM signals and run the SIS modules that contain Smart Logic the safety system logic. Redundant CSLS can support up to 96 LS Solvers (CSLS) CHARMs. The maximum number of LS CHARMs (96) are organized in eight banks of 12 CHARMs. Each bank of 12 LS CHARMs is held by a CHARM Baseplate. CSLS mount on CHARMs Smart Logic Solver Carriers and connect to the Local Safety Network through connectors on the carriers. SZ Controllers SZ Controllers mount on the SZ Controller Carrier and connect to the Area Control Network and the Local Safety Network through ports on the carrier. SZ Controllers isolate CSLS from the rest of the system. SZ

controllers receive redundant 24 VDC input through the carrier. A Modbus/TCP port on the carrier enables an SZ controller to support standalone SIS installations. CHARMs CSLS Carriers are DIN rail-mounted carriers that hold simplex or Smart Logic redundant CSLS and Power Modules. The CSLS Carrier provides 24 VDC Solver Carriers input to the CSLS and to the Power Modules. The Power Modules provide 6.3 VDC to the LS CHARMs. The CSLS Carrier houses primary and secondary Safety Network Ports for connections to the Local Safety Network and a keylock switch that restricts how and when the CSLS can be unlocked for downloads and upgrades. SZ Controller Carriers SZ Controller Carriers are DIN rail-mounted carriers that hold simplex or redundant SZ Controllers. The SZ Controller Carrier houses primary and secondary Safety Isolation Ports for connections to the DeltaV Area Control Network and to the Local Safety Network. CHARM Baseplates hold Logic Solver CHARMs (LS CHARMs). The CHARM Baseplates connect to the CSLS Carrier and to other baseplates through connectors on the baseplates. Each CHARM Baseplate holds up to 12 Logic Solver CHARMs terminal blocks that hold LS CHARMs, and an Address Plug that determines the address of the CHARM Baseplate and the CHARMs installed on the baseplate. LS CHARMs are single I/O channels that plug into the LS CHARM Terminal Blocks on the CHARM Baseplate. The DeltaV system supports analog input, discrete input, discrete output (including LS DO redundant DTA and LS DO redundant ETA CHARMs), LS DVC HART simplex and redundant DTA, power output, thermocouple input, and voltage LS CHARMs as well as LS Intrinsically Safe analog input and discrete input CHARMs.

Recommendations for installing vertical DIN rails

CHARMs hardware is designed for installation on vertical T-type DIN rails in an enclosure suitable for the location in which the equipment is installed. Use standard, 3.5 cm (1.38 inch) T-type DIN rails to hold the equipment. Suggested spacing for DIN rail installation Maintain 2.5 cm (.98 inch) from the top of the carrier to the bottom of the wireway mounted above or to the top edge of the enclosure's mounting surface. Maintain 2.5 cm (.98 inch) from the left side of the carrier to the right side of a wireway mounted on the left of the carrier or the left edge of the enclosures mounting surface. Maintain 5.0 cm (1.97 inch) from the right side of the carrier to the left side of a wireway mounted to the right of the carrier or the right edge of the enclosures mounting surface.

Install an SZ Controller Carrier on the DIN rail

The SZ Controller Carrier holds redundant SZ Controllers. It has redundant 24 VDC connectors for providing power to the controllers, redundant (primary and secondary) ethernet ports for connection to the Area Control Network, and redundant (primary and secondary) ethernet ports for connection to the Local Safety Network. No tools are required to install the SZ Controller Carrier on the DIN rail. A latch on the back of the carrier snaps it into place on the DIN rail.

Installing CHARMs Smart Logic Solver SIS hardware

1.

Fit together the connectors on the top of the baseplate that you are installing with the connectors on the bottom of the installed baseplate as you snap the baseplate onto the DIN rail. Install up to eight baseplates under the CSLS Carrier.

2.

Remove a CHARMs Smart Logic Solver Carrier or Baseplate from the DIN rail
CSLS Carriers and CHARM Baseplates are removed from the DIN rail in the same way. 1. Push the latch tab on the right side of the carrier or baseplate to the unlock position. You will hear a click when the latch opens. 2. 3. Slowly pull the carrier or baseplate straight towards you as you slightly rock the carrier to disengage the bus connectors to the adjacent carrier. Reengage the latch before reinstalling the carrier on the DIN rail.

Install the Column Terminator onto the DIN rail

The Column Terminator terminates the redundant bus. It installs after the last CHARM Baseplate on the DIN rail.

Ensure that the lock on the Column Terminator is in the locked position. Insert a screw driver into the lock and turn it counter-clockwise to engage the lock.

3.

Align the connectors on the Column Terminator with the connectors on the last baseplate and snap the terminator onto the DIN rail.

After installing the Column Terminator you can install a DIN Rail Stop and then wire your field devices to the terminal blocks on the baseplates. Refer to the terminal block specifications in the DeltaV SIS CHARMs Smart Logic Solver Hardware Reference manual for more information. After wiring your devices, perform all standard field wiring checkout procedures.

Install a DIN Rail Stop

Vibration may cause baseplates to slip down on the DIN rail. Install a DIN Rail Stop after the Column Terminator to prevent slippage. Figure 2-6: DIN Rail Stop

1. 2. 3.

Be sure the arrow on the top of the DIN Rail Stop is pointing upwards. This prevents potential damage from the screws on the stop. Hook the end with the deeper notch over the DIN rail and then hook the end with the more shallow notch over the other side of the DIN rail. Screw the stop onto the DIN rail being careful not to overtighten the screws. Be sure that both sides of the DIN rail stop are properly secured. The torque limits are specified on the DIN rail stop.

Connect power to SZ Controllers

Redundant 24 VDC power is delivered from bulk power supplies to SZ Controllers through the SZ Controller Carrier.

Extend CHARM power to other baseplates

When CHARM Baseplates in a 96 LS CHARM system are installed on multiple DIN rails, CHARM Column Extenders and cables are used to extend redundant 24 VDC power and communication busses to the baseplates. The bottom column extender can be connected to CSLS carriers or to baseplates depending upon the physical location of the carrier and the baseplate. The top column extender can be connected to baseplates only. CHARM Column Extender cables are available in three lengths: 0.5 meters (1.64 feet) 1.0 meters (3.28 feet) 2.0 meters (6.56 feet)

15

Installing CHARMs Smart Logic Solver SIS hardware

A maximum of four extender pairs can be used and only one extender pair can exceed 0.5 meters (1.64 feet). The maximum bus length ( the total length from the CSLS to the CHARM Column Terminator) is 5.5 meters (18 feet). Figure 2-9: Example installations with CHARM Column Extenders

Communication in a CHARMs Smart Logic Solver SIS system

In a CSLS SIS system, communication occurs over the DeltaV Area Control Network and a Local Safety Network. DeltaV Area Control Network The DeltaV Area Control Network is an Ethernet network that enables communication between the nodes in a DeltaV network. SZ Controllers connect to the Area Control Network (as well as to the Local Safety Network) and isolate the CHARMs Smart Logic Solvers (CSLS) from the rest of the DeltaV system. Refer to the DeltaV S-series and CHARMs Hardware Installation manual for information on setting up the Area Control Network. The Local Safety Network is a Ethernet network that enables communication between CSLSs and a single SZ Controller. The CSLSs communicate secure parameter and input data to other CSLSs over the Local Safety Network. The SZ Controller communicates configuration, parameter changes, and module data over the Local Safety Network to the CSLSs. SZ Controllers provide the DeltaV interface to multiple CSLSs on the same Local Safety Network. All CSLSs under one SZ Controller share the same Local Safety Network.
Note The Local Safety Network must be treated as a dedicated standalone Local Area Network (LAN) and must not be connected to any other network including other DeltaV Local Safety Networks. Other than switches and DeltaV nodes, no other network devices should be connected to the Local Safety Network.
