Downloading EQAO In Assistive Technology Formats

This year’s assessments will be available Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 9:00 am

1. Go the the EQAO website. www.eqao.com

2. Log into the secure site of the website.

3. Under “What’s New” Click on the The Student Data Collection System, Spring 2009.
The Spring Assessments for download will be located on the TASKS tab in the SDC
system. There will be a task added called Download Assistive Technology Format.
This will only appear for schools who indicated they needed the electronic version.

4. Download and save to your Desktop the electronic format that you will be using
with your students. (i.e. Kurzweil, Premier). This will appear on your Desktop in a
zipped file folder. (Be sure to name your folder so you know what it contains)

5. The zipped files need to be extracted. Double click on the zipped file and under Folder
Tasks select Extract all files.

6. Follow the instructions in the Extraction Wizard.

7. When finished, the Assessments will appear in an unzipped file on your Desktop.

8. Steps 5 - 7 need to be repeated for each electronic format downloaded.

Giving the test to your Students


A. Memory Key
If you only have a few students using the computer and assistive technology, then you
can save the test to a memory key.
1. Have the student log into a computer and open the program they will be using.
2. Insert your memory key and open the EQAO file.
3. Go to File - Save As.. and save a copy to the student’s H drive.

B. Burning A CD
Each teacher who is administering EQAO can be given a copy of the assessment on CD
so that he/she can load it on the student(s) computers.
See attached instructions for burning a cd.
Remember

 Check your school’s Student Data Collection System to ensure accommodations


have been recorded accurately. Changes should be made as soon as possible to
ensure correct versions are ordered and sent.

 It is important to trial the test prior to the actual test date to ensure the
computer’s sound is working, the text is reading properly, and printing is possible.

 Students should save regularly while doing the assessment to avoid any lost
information.

 Type the final 12 digits of the package ID number in the header of each page of
the document.

 Print the student’s entire booklet and staple the pages to the inside front cover of
the corresponding test booklet.

 Multiple choice answers can be highlighted electronically but must be recorded


on the Student Answer Form (Grade 6 only).

 Place the booklets and the completed Student Answer Sheets in the Special
Versions Envelope

 All electronic versions of the assessments must be deleted and should not be
retained after August 31, 2009.
