1. (a) Explain the conventional process of the product cycle in the
manufacturing environment.
(b) What are the limitations in utilizing the sweep method for geometric
construction? [8+8 M]

2. (a)Describe various commonly used primitives for solid modeling and
explain the Boolean operations.
(b)Give an example of how the centralized integrated database concept can
help with the what-if situations that arise during the design process. [8+8 M]

3. (a) How do you specify a plotter for graphics application?
(b)A scaling factor of 3 is applied in the Y direction while no scaling is
applied in the X direction to the line whose two end points are at coordinates
(1, 4) and (5, 6). The line is to be rotated subsequently through 60

, in the
counter clockwise direction. Determine the necessary transformation matrix
for the operation and the new coordinates of the end points. [8+8 M]

(b) What are the Graphics Standards? Why are they necessary for Computer

6. The top surface of a large cast iron plate is to be face milled. The area to be
machined is 340-mm wide and 500-mm long. The insert type face milling
cutter has eight teeth and is 80 mm in diameter. Define the origin of the axis
system at the lower left corner of the part with the long side parallel to the
Y-axis. Write the APT geometry and motion statements for this job. [16 M]

5. A turning operation is to be performed on an NC lathe. Cutting speed = 3.5
m/sec, feed = 0.3 mm/rev, and depth = 2.0 mm. Work piece diameter = 90
mm and its length = 300 mm. Determine (a) the rotational speed of the work
bar. (b) The feed rate, (c) the metal removal rate and (d) the time to travel
from one end of the part to the other. [8+8 M]

coding system?
