10 Event:Organising the committee members Date: 19th June 2013

It was the first meeting in which we had to organise the committee members for our English Language Society. The purpose of organising the committee members is to ensure that the society runs smoothly. The society is nothing without committee members. So, we took the chance to organise the committee members for this society. The organising of committee members was conducted by Nur Aida Madhihah binti Azman as a temporary president. The important committees in any society consist of president, assistant president, secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer, assistant treasurer and any other committees. Each committee has its own role and responsibility. So, the members appointed should be responsible of their roles in the society. I was chosen to be the president for this society based on majority votes from other members. Every member would have to suggest three persons to have a position for each committee. They were worthy enough to hold the position if they got majority votes from other members. One thing I have learnt from the election of committee was trust, confidence and responsibility. In my opinion, the person elected by members to hold the position in the society should be trusted by all members to do works, be confidence and be responsible towards the society. It is because other members will not just choose anybody they like because three main attitudes play an important role for the society to run smoothly.

Last week, we were asked to create an identity of society such as logo, moto and song in groups. We took about a week to think of the objectives, song, motto and logo before we presented them to our lecturer, Mr Yahya bin Omar. The motto presented was With Language, We Conquer the World. It is because English is a universal language and everyone can speak and understand as compared to other languages. However, Mr Yahya did not agree with this motto because he said that we should create a simple motto for children in primary school suits to their proficiency level. In addition, the song presented also was not so interesting much in term of rhythm and melody. According to Mr Yahya, he suggested us to make a little bit of improvement so that the song is pleased to sing and listened by the others. Moreover, we also created a logo to symbolize the society. The logo created by us consisted of an earth with two hands shaking each other accompanied by the motto of With language, We Conquer the World under the two hands. Each picture has its own significant. So far, it was good and interesting.

During meeting, we have planned and discussed about weekly activities. All of us had to contribute the ideas on what kind of activities we would like to have every week. The activities suggested were public speaking, debate, forum, explorace, spelling bee, aerobic, puzzle, scrabble, singing contest and last but not least role play. Since it is English Language Society, we should have to have the activities that will encourage our language and communication. So, we will try to carry out the activities every week so that the society will be meaningful to us. Each activity will be organised by different members every week while others have to be the participants. By doing this way, we will have some knowledge on how to organise the activities when we are at school in the future. Besides, it will encourage us to participate in the activities suggested. In my opinion, the value of cooperation is very important in organising and involve in the activities. If there is no cooperation among members, the activities planned are nothing to us.

Spelling bee competition was organised by PISMP 6.08. All the TESL class should have ten representatives as the participants of the competition. It was held at Dewan Jalil at 2.30 until 4.30 pm. moreover, it was judged by Puan Fauziah and Puan Dalilah. There are thirty participants from the three classes altogether. I also participated in the spelling competition that day replacing Nurul Syahirah binti Ibrahim as she was having fever. I felt enjoy to participate in the spelling competition. I knew it was not easy to spell the difficult words as I had an experience of participating the Spell It Right competition organised by New Strait Times when I was in Form 5. During the competition, I only remembered that I had to spell the words combustible while another one I cannot remember what was it. Based on the experience, we knew the words but we tend to spell it wrongly. In my opinion, the spelling competition is very good for us to develop our vocabularies as well as improve in spelling as well as pronunciation.
