SCOPE
This document is intended to be read in conjunction with Anglo Fatal Risk Standard 2: Surface Mobile Equipment and its associated technical guideline. This document provides information concerning identification standard for Surface Mobile Equipment.
EQUIPMENT IDENTIFICATION
SME shall have signage on equipment that allows clear and easy identification from a distance The intent of this requirement is to avoid serious injury/fatality by enabling quick and easy identification of a specific piece of SME from a distance in an emergency situation, and/or to ensure positive communication of the intention to move or interact with equipment in order to avoid collisions It is suggested that each site should establish a minimum standard for equipment identification that is consistently applied across the site to avoid confusion
Site Standard for Surface Mobile Equipment numbering and identification should include: High contrast colours Yellow numbers Black Background Numbers to be a minimum of 50cm high

Two different colour standards (black on yellow and white on black); white number also confuses with the OEM model number
Black on yellow machine base colour does not stand out enough; could be confused with model number.

Vertical numbers are hard to read quickly; number is too long resembling a telephone number. Background colour the same as the ROPs

Numbers are large and clear but background is the white base colour. Prefer different reflective colour or even a black border around the number to make it stand out more, particularly at night.
