,ectang$!ar Marquee Tool &8' Bse this tool to make selections on your image, in a rectangular shape. This changes the area of your image that is affected by other tools or actions to be within the defined shape. .olding the C$hiftD key while dragging your selection, restricts the shape to a perfect s*uare. .olding the CAltD key while dragging sets the center of the rectangle to where your cursor started.

8o1e Too! &;' Bse this tool to, well, move things. Bsually you use it to move a 5ayer around after it has been placed. .old the C$hiftD key to limit the movements to vertical/horizontal.

Po!7gon 6asso Too! &6' 4k, this should be the 5asso Tool, but use the Polygon 5asso a lot more often. Bse this to draw selections in whatever shape you would like. To close the selection, either click on the beginning point +youll see the cursor change when youre on it,, or 0ust double1click. 2hen holding the C%trlD key, youll see the cursor change, and the ne#t time you click, it will close your selection.

Crop Tool

&/'

The %rop Tool works similarly to the 3ectangular 6ar*uee tool +see above if you have no short1 term memory,. The difference is when you press the C(nter/3eturnD key, it crops your image to

the size of the bo#. Any information that was on the outside of the bo# is now gone. >ot permanently, you can still undo.

S!ice Too! &A' This is used mostly for building websites, or splitting up one image into smaller ones when saving out. ts kind of an advanced tool, and since youre in here for the basics, well kind of skip over it. Einda makes you mad made you read all that for nothing, huhF

Hea!ing Br$sh Too! &B' This is a really useful tool. 6ildly advanced. <ou can use this tool to repair scratches and specs and stuff like that on images. t works like the 7rush tool +see below,. <ou choose your cursor size, then holding the CAltD key, you select a nice/clean area of your image. 5et go of the CAltD key and paint over the bad area. t basically copies the info from the first area to the second, in the form of the 7rush tool. 4nly, at the end, it averages the information, so it blends.

Br$sh Too! &B' This is one of the first tools ever. ts what Photoshop is based off of. 2ell, not really, but its pretty basic. t paints one your image, in whatever color you have selected, and whatever size you have selected. Theres a lot of options for it, but this is basic, so you dont get to learn them. .a.

/!one Sta0p Too! &S' This is very similar to the .ealing 7rush Tool +see above,. <ou use it the e#act same way, e#cept this tool doesnt blend at the end. ts a direct copy of the information from the first selected area to the second. 2hen you learn to use both of these tools together in perfect harmony, you will be a Photoshop 6A$TA/ >ot really, its 0ust less irritating.

Histor7 Br$sh Too! &H' This tool works 0ust like the 7rush Tool +see above, e#cept the information that it paints with is from the original state of your image. f you go 2indowG.istory, you can see the .istory Palette. The .istory 7rush tool paints with the information from whatever .istory state is selected.

&E' This is the anti17rush tool. t works like an eraser +duh, and erases whatever information wherever you click and drag it. f youre on a 5ayer, it will erase the information transparent. f you are on the background layer, it erases with whatever secondary color you have selected.
Eraser Tool

Gradient Too! &G' <ou can use this to make a gradiation of colors. ?radiation doesnt appear to be a word, but it makes sense anyway. t creates a blending of your foreground color and background color when you click and drag it. 5ike a gradient.

B!$r Too! &,' The 7lur tool is cool. t makes things blurry. %lick and drag to make things blurry. The more you click and drag, the blurrier things get.

Dodge Too! &O' This tool isnt as crappy as the car brand. ts actually used to lighten whatever area you use it on. As long as it is not absolute black. Absolute black wont lighten.

Path Selection Tool &A' <ou use this tool when working with paths. $ince this is all about the basics, wont go into details. ts related to the Pen Tool +see below, tho$gh.

HoriConta! T7pe Too! &T' t makes type. 4r te#t. 4r whatever you want to call it. <ou can click a single point, and start typing right away. 4r you can click and drag to make a bounding bo# of where your te#t/type goes. Theres a lot of options for the Type Tool. Hust play around, its fairly straight1forward.

Pen Too! &P' mentioned this tool above. ts for creating paths, in which you would use the Path $election

Tool to select the path. Paths can be used in a few different ways, mostly to create clipping paths, or to create selections. <ou use the tool by clicking to add a point. f you click and drag, it will change the shape of your path, allowing you to bend and shape the path for accurate selections and such.

,ectang!e Too! &5' 7y default it draws a $hape 5ayer in the form of a rectangle. t fills the rectangle with whatever foreground color you have selected. ts pretty complicated, dont hurt yourself with this one.

Dotes Too! &D' 5ike post1it notes, but digital. <ou can use this tool to add small little note bo#es to your image. These are useful if youre very forgetful or if youre sharing your Photoshop file with someone else. m pretty sure it only works with .P$- files.

E7edropper Too! &I' This tool works by changing your foreground color to whatever color you click on. .olding the CAltD key will change your background color.

Hand Too! &T' <ou can really make short work of your 0ob with the .and Tool. ts for moving your entire image within a window. $o if youre zoomed in and your image area is larger than the window, you can use the .and Tool to navigate around your image. Hust click and drag. <ou can get to this tool at any time when using any other tool by pressing and holding the C$pacebarD.

Eoo0 Too! &E' Pretty obvious what this tool does. t allows you to zoom into your image. -ont be dumb, it doesnt actually change the size of your image. .old the CAltD key to zoom out. .olding the C$hiftD key will zoom all of the windows you have open at the same time. -ouble1click on the Ioom Tool in the palette to go back to J==K view.

BOD5SFF These are your color bo#es. 9oreground +in the front, and 7ackground +in the back,. %lick on either one to bring up the color select dialog bo#.
