Common Core
A Trojan Horse for Education Reform

*To RSVP this month, please CALL LAURA (707) 839-5538

45 states have adopted the Common Core - and California is one of them - but dont mistake that for enthusiastic, nationwide support. Critics refer to it as Terrorist Professor Bill Ayers and Obamas Federal School Curriculum and, as we find out whats in it, this would seem to be accurate. Weve been posting information on our website detailing the extreme left-wing bent, the lesson plans with graphic depictions of rape and pedophilia, and thats just the tip of the iceberg. Michelle Malkin says, Time to Opt Out of creepy Fed Ed Data-Mining Racket. Learn what has so many people so concerned - our guest speaker this month, Orlean Koehle, has authored a new book, Common Core, that takes a look at this latest transformation of the educational system, the imposition of a federal curriculum. Orlean Koehle is State President of the Eagle Forum of California, President of Concerned Citizens of Sonoma County, Parents Involved in Education, and VP of Santa Rosa Republican Women Federated. Orleans other books include: The Golden Rule School, Character in Education; A Closer Look at the Real ID Act of 2005; and her most recent: By Stealth and Deception, USA Transformation and its Parallel to the European Union. Join us for this important topic. Challenge yourselves to invite one or two guests. You remember what a wonderful, informative speaker we sponsored last month? Well, you'll not be disappointed with this month's fare, either. Let's unite to spread the word! We're gaining momentum and we must continue to grow. Information begets power and freedom! Let's wake up the people to what's happening beneath their very noses! Invite, invite, invite! See you on November 21 with guests in tow!

VETERANS DAY RECEPTION

FEATURING KATHRIN BURLESONS PORTRAITS OF WWII VETERANS

at the ADORNI CENTER

11:00 am 1:00-3:00

Please do not think this is the obligatory message for Thanksgiving, because its not. I come before you with a thankful heart; for in spite of everything that is negative, there are far more positives. First, Id like to thank all of you for the excitement, concern, and the willingness that was exhibited to become more involved in the issues presented during our last months speakers presentation. Debbie Bacigalupe told it like it is, and your response was staggering. Because of your generosity, we sent her a check for $535.00 to continue her efforts on behalf of this area, state, and nation. She is truly following in the footsteps of our first patriots, sacrificing everything for the cause of freedom. Her devotion to her country and its people cause me to examine my own state of commitment, as Im sure you are doing as well. Shes quite a powerhouse! By the way, Debbie did send me an email thanking me for our gift. She mentioned that she was totally blown away by the amount of our donation. Thankfulness begetting thankfulness begetting thankfulness.. John Fullerton sent me his thanks last evening.for all we have done to support his re-election to the School Board. He shared that things were looking good and that our calls were helping make that happen. Well not know the results of the election until after you receive this newsletter, but what is important is that we came together to rally for a good cause. Im so very proud of the twenty-plus people, men and women, who have made this happen, and quite thankful for them as well. They give me hope, a hope that not all is lost. We do have a future and a hope in politics, as an important voice in our community, and as a force to be reckoned with. Were getting our groove back! John is thankful for our support; were thankful we could help, and were thankful that we have been energized into action. No more feeling powerless because of the perceived giants in the land. Thankfulness. In reflection, what I see is family. Yes, Im using it as a metaphor. We may not be related by blood, but we are related by the same ideals of democracy, freedom, and service to our country. We are tied to a common history and its governing documents. We choose to sacrifice what we can to our common goals. We choose to overlook each others foibles for the higher purposes we support.. We are thankful to be Americans. We are family. We are thankful for our heritage and fight to keep its truth alive. I am thankful for your willingness to sacrifice your time to do one thing more when I call. I continue to be humbled by your devotion to the call.and I dont mean my phone call. You are thankful to be called! You rise up which, in turn, causes me to rise up to work to be a better leader. All because of thankfulness. We are Humboldt Republican Women, Federated! Hear us roar! Let us fight for the sake of freedom, democracy, and the truth in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence! Happy Thanksgiving. Merry Christmas. Happy New Year. We are so blessed!

Legislative Report

California

A Lie From Day One:

With Obamacare, everyone loses.
NBC NEWS: OBAMA ADMIN. KNEW MILLIONS WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS, PROMISED IT ANYWAY It turns out you cant keep your plan And, you cant keep your doctor. The headlines tell the real story: Charles Krauthammer says, So a law designed to cover the uninsured is now throwing far more people off their insurance than it can possibly be signing up on the nonfunctioning insurance exchanges. Indeed, most of the 19 million people with individual insurance will have to find new and likely more expensive coverage. And that doesnt even include the additional millions who are sure to lose their employer-provided coverage. Thats a lot of people. Thats a pretty big lie.... The revelations have been fast and furious: We found out that OBAMA KNEW 3 years ago that you were going to be losing your insurance plan. CNN reported that the ObamaCare war room worried about reaction when some enrollees figure out they cant keep their doctors. They knew! Edie Littlefield Sundbys op-ed in the Wall St. Journal stated flat out: I had great cancer doctors and health insurance. My plan was cancelled. Now I worry how long I'll live. Not only is she losing her insurance plan, but she is losing her doctors, too. She has survived lung and gallbladder cancer for nearly seven years, but fears a government-run health bureaucracy. After her piece, the Obama adminstration has attacked her - White House comm. chief used his official Twitter account to promote a liberal blog's takedown of her Wall Street Journal essay that went viral - and she has struck back. The headline in the Daily Mail: Cancer sufferer who took on Obamacare slams White House official for 'snotty' tweet, and says Obama's family and staff should all sign up if they support it. Her days are precious and few, and she should not have to waste a single day dealing with trying to find new insurance coverage, or attacks from the White House. Congressman Trey Gowdy says, Instead of saying, We made a mistake, even, We made an intentional misstatement, we need you to forgive us, the response is to evade and to answer questions falsely and then the worst of all is to assume the American people are stupid enough to believe the explanation that he came up with today Dana Loesch shreds NYTs Obama misspoke lie with simple question: "Can teleprompters misspeak?" John Nolte/Breitbart says, "ObamaCare Exposes the Soylent Green Liberals." Washington Examiner columnist Timothy P. Carney points out, The most important job of the media is holding the powerful accountable. This task, I believe, is why the founders put the freedom of the press in the First Amendment. The mainstream media, of course, has been failing miserably in that regard, which is why we REALLY encourage you to get acquainted with the New Media. Its not just Talk Radio, though thats a big piece. Its alternative online news sites working hard every day to bring you the REAL story. This is our last newsletter of the year, but you can stay up on the news through our website and we encourage you to visit every day.

THE NEED TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN

AB 1266 Bill has recently been enacted by the California Legislature and signed by Governor Jerry Brown. This bill permits school students to use sensitive sex-segregated school facilities such as showers, restrooms and locker rooms based on the students perceived gender identity rather than their actual sex. This involves ages K-12. Its the only legislation of this kind to have been enacted in the country. (Privacy for All Students Referendum Information.) My dear friends, this is degradation and our children are now all at risk. At least 505,000 signatures were needed by Wednesday, November 6th, in order to qualify for a referendum. If sufficient signatures were submitted to elections officials, the law would be suspended, will not take effect, and would appear on the November 2014 statewide ballot. Then, at that time, voters would be able to reject or approve the legislation. The current status of the AB 1266 Bill has been chaptered, but does not go into effect until January 1, 2014. The Privacy For All Students coalition has filed a referendum in order to give voters the right to reject the law. If you would like to get more involved in this sensitive and moral issue, you can go to privacyforallstudents.com and receive their updated information to follow this AB 1266 Bill. It is time for all of us to get involved. Let us all be in prayer and remember Zechariah 4:6: It is not by might nor by power but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. Blessings, 2nd Vice President and Chaplain

CFRW COMMON CORE RESOLUTION Defeat National Standards for State Schools
Please read the resolution, included below, adopted at (CFRW's) 2013 Spring Conference in Redding, CA. Talk to members, family and neighbors about Common Core. Please send letters to the editor and contact your elected representatives, especially your local school boards. This is another grab for power by taking over our school system and dramatically changing how and what our children are taught! Thank you for all you do,
Roseann Slonsky-Breault,President

WHEREAS, The national standards-based Common Core State Standards initiative is the centerpiece of the Obama Administrations agenda to centralize education decision at the federal level; WHEREAS, The Obama Administration is using the same model to take over education as it used for healthcare by using national standards and boards of bureaucrats, whom the public didnt elect and cant fire or otherwise hold accountable; WHEREAS, National standards remove authority from States over what is taught in the classroom and how it is tested; WHEREAS, National standards undercut the principle of federalism on which our nation was founded; WHEREAS, There is no constitutional or statutory authority for national standards, national curricula, or national assessments and in fact the federal government is expressly prohibited from endorsing or dictating state/local decisions about curricula; and WHEREAS, The Obama Administration is attempting to evade constitutional and statutory prohibitions to move toward a nationalized public-school system by (1) funding to date more than $345 million for the development of national curriculum and test questions, (2) tying national standards to the Race to the Top charter schools initiative in the amount of $4.35 billion, (3) using the Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) to pressure State Boards of Education to adopt national standards with the threat of losing Title 1 Funds if they do not and (4) requesting Congress to include national standards as a requirement in the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary School Act (No Child Left Behind); BE IT RESOLVED, That California Federation of Republican Women, Northern Division in session at the Spring Conference in Redding encourages all Federated members to become educated about this take over of local control as recommended by the vote of the National Federation of Republican Women in its October 1, 2011 Biennial Convention.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That local club presidents ask their members to (1) write their CA Superintendant of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education members and request that they retain control over academic standards, curriculum, instruction and testing, (2) write their Congressional Members and request that they (a)protect the constitutional and statutory prohibitions against the federal government endorsing or dictating national standards, (b) to refuse to tie national standards to any reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, (c) defund Race to the Top money, and (d) prohibit any more federal funds for the Common Core State Standards Initiative, including funds to assessment and curriculum writing consortia, (3) write their Governor and state representatives to refuse federal funds and mandates and (4) spread the word about the threat of a federal government takeover of education. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon adoption, California Federation of Republican Women, Northern Division issues a press release with copies sent to each club president for club publicity person to disseminate to local media including Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Our Stories

MICHAEL K. ROBINSON JEREMIAH R. SCOTT, JR ATTORNEYS AT LAW

The two national holidays celebrated in November, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving, present us with opportunities to remember those who have served our country and to count our blessings and give thanks to our Creator. Weaving these two themes together, I am responding to a request asking that I share a few highlights of some early ancestors in America. Recognition of these 17th and 18th century patriots who served in the military and helped to establish our freedom rekindles a sense of gratitude within me. First generation brothers on my mothers paternal line, Jean and Abraham Hasbrouck, were Huguenots from the region of Calais. As Protestants, they were persecuted during the reign of Louis XIV and fled to the new land. They married sisters, Anna and Maria Deyo. Jean, the elder, was a devout man, quiet, home-loving, and a very good businessman. He was content in simplicity and didnt seek public office. His brother Abraham (from whom I descend) was more social, an army man with many acquaintances, and he often accepted positions that took him away from home. They both held a high regard for learning and for family unity. These brothers were among the twelve families who sought refuge under the Dutch flag along the Hudson River, and subsequently purchased land from the Esopus Indians. The grant for their settlement, called New Paltz, was signed in 1677. Thirty years later they began to build substantial stone houses to replace the original simple huts. Huguenot Street in New Paltz, NY, exists today as a National Historic Site. The New Paltz people had their own customs, their own schoolmaster, and their own legal administration. They were governed by representatives of the twelve original families, chosen annually, called the Duzine. They were recognized and respected as long as the Colonies were under the British Crown and eventually became incorporated by the State Government in 1785. Twenty-eight Hasbrouck ancestors are listed in the NY Archives and DAR Registers as having served in the American Revolution. The ancestor, by whom I claim DAR membership, is Captain Elias Hasbrouck, grandson of Abraham. I am a ninth generation descendant of Abraham. Through life membership in the Hasbrouck Family Association, part of the Huguenot Historical Society in New Paltz, I am reminded of the importance of the hopes and dreams of the early settlers and why we must maintain the values so very important to the founders of our country. In 1991, Ray and I were privileged to attend the annual meeting of the Hasbroucks in New Paltz. We walked Huguenot Street, worshipped in the Old French Church, stood at the graves of Abraham & Maria, and toured the Abraham House built in 1712. We are grateful for that experience. Were you expecting a Washington slept there story? If so, it must be noted that Col. Jonathan Hasbroucks home in Newburgh, NY, served as General Washingtons Headquarters from April 1782-August 1783. Jonathan was a first cousin of Elias! It is my hope that other members of HRWF may be willing to share family histories in future newsletters.
