PLACES OF INTEREST IN JOHOR

ROYAL ABU BAKAR MUSEUM


Few museums in the country can rival the Royal Abu Bakar in terms of the
grandeur of its setting and the variety and quality of its priceless collection
With over 5000 exhibits and 35000 items, it is the storehouse of
knowledge about the Johor Sultanate.
The bulk of the collection stems from the region of Sultan Abu Bakar, often
referred as the Father of Modern Johor, and that of his son and successor Sultan
Ibrahim .
Located at Istana Besar, the museum , which is one of the oldest buildings
in JB , has an interesting mixture of neo-Renaissance and Anglo-Malay
architecture .
Open hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily . The museum is closed on
Fridays.

JOHOR LAMA FORT


Located in Johor Lama , once the royal seat of the Johor Empire, the
historical significance of the fort cannot be denied.
Visitors can reach the fortress via sea or road.

KITE MUSUEM

The kite museum at Bukit Layang –Layang in Pasir Gudang was official
opened by the Sultan of Johor in 2002.
The RM 4.5 million museum has an array of modern and traditional kites
of various shapes, colours and designs.
Opening hours are from 8 a.m to 4.30 p.m. during the fasting month. The
entrance fee is RM 2 per adult and RM1 for children between the ages of seven
12.

PINEAPPLE MUSEUM
Situated at 52km Jalan Pontian, along the Johor Baru-Pontian-Kukup
‘tourist route’, visitors can find a collection of artifacts,exhibits,publications and
information pertaining to the pineapple industry in Malaysia. It was officially
opened in May 2002.
Opening hours are from 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. daily . Admission is free for
