Conversation

Make a conversation between a patient and a nurse.


Situation : A doctor ordered a nurse (N) to explain a diet program to the patient (P) with
peptic ulcer during his/her treatment.
Patient with peptic ulcer
A patient with peptic ulcer should avoid:

Excessive hot drink/food.

Smoking, alcoholic beverages and aspirin should be avoided.

Meat should be in small servings. Try to eat about the same amount at each meal.

Peptic ulcer is one disease where proper dietary management is equally or more
important than pure drug therapy.

Protein: Normal protein requirement of 1 g/kg body weight, i.e. about 60 gm. should be
given. Milk proteins not irritate gastric mucosa. Meat soup increase acidity.
Calories: Sufficient calories are to be given and vitamin C may be helpful in healing the
ulcer.
