Saudara saudari, Kepimpinan MTUC mengucapkan Selamat Tahun Baru kepada semua ahli gabungan dan pekerja-pekerja di Malaysia. Dengan kepimpinan baru MTUC, tahun 2014 menjanjikan suatu permulaan era baru bagi kesatuan-kesatuan sekerja di negara ini. Wujudnya keperluan untuk melakukan pembaharuan yang segera dan pembaharuan ini perlu dilakukan dalam beberapa bidang utama. MTUC perlu mencari jalan bagi mengatur diri kita untuk meningkatkan penyertaan pekerja dalam aktiviti kesatuan sekerja. Keahlian MTUC perlu dipertingkatkan agar MTUC dan kesatuan sekerja mempunyai suara yang besar dan mempunyai pengaruh yang kuat terhadap perkembangan ekonomi dan sosial di negara ini. Pelbagai cabaran dihadapi oleh Kesatuan sekerja untuk meningkatkan keahlian kesatuan. Proses yang melibatkan perkaraperkara seperti pengiktirafan kesatuan, memperluaskan dan pentakrifan semula skop kesatuan sekerja, kelewatan dalam menangani isu-isu yang melanda pekerja dan kesatuan sekerja sememangnya membimbangkan dan tidak ada kesudahan dalam memperjuangkannya. Proses-proses ini direka sedemikian untuk menghalang penubuhan kesatuan-kesatuan sekerja di negara ini. Ini perlu ditangani melalui satu siri langkah-langkah yang terancang. MTUC perlu memberi tekanan yang berterusan kepada kerajaan supaya dapat menyelesaikan permasalahan-permasalahan ini sekaligus meminda undang-undang buruh supaya ia memberi manfaat dan faedah kepada ahli-ahli kesatuan sekerja. MTUC perlu bersatu bagi menangani perkara ini. Saya menjemput semua kesatuan gabungan, ahli-ahli kesatuan sekerja, pekerja dan semua penyokong kaum pekerja untuk tampil ke hadapan bagi membolehkan MTUC berdiri dengan teguh dan kukuh. Marilah kita bersama-sama membuat tahun 2014 sebagai tahun kenangan untuk kesatuan sekerja di Malaysia. Hidup Pekerja ! Hidup MTUC !

MTUC protests against the Ministry of Human Resources


MTUC protests against the Ministry of Human Resources Protes terhadap Kementerian Sumber Manusia Workers across Peninsular got together for the MTUC Picket against the Ministry of Human Resources. The workers joined the broad coalition of unions and workers activist movement in a mobilisation against the economic, social, and political injustice by the one percent and the unholy support extended by the Ministry of Human Resources. The Chairman of the MTUC Action Committee, Bro Abdul Razak Md Hassan has documented nation-wide practices of wage theft, denial of union rights and abuse of workers. Pekerja di seluruh Semenanjung Malaysia bersatu dalam Piket anjuran MTUC bagi membantah tindakan Kementerian Sumber Manusia. Para pekerja menyertai gabungan kesatuan sekerja dan pergerakan aktivis pekerja dalam satu mobilisasi menentang ketidakadilan ekonomi, sosial, dan politik yang ditunjukkan kepada mereka oleh pihak Kementerian Sumber Manusia. Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Bertindak MTUC, Sdra Abdul Razak Md Hassan telah mendokumenkan amalan pemerasan gaji, penafian hak-hak kesatuan dan pengeksploitasian pekerja di seluruh Negara.

Ahli-ahli kesatuan bersama pemimpin-pemimpin MTUC piket di perkarangan Putrajaya bagi mendesak supaya kerajaan memberi keutamaan kepada hal ehwal kesatuan sekerja yang menjadi nadi kepada pembangunan ekonomi negara. Piket telah diadakan pada 12 Disember 2013 secara aman.

Trade union wants ex-minister summoned to Parliament over shocking report to world labour body
The Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) wants former human resources minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam to face the Parliamentary Labour Caucus over a report he made to the International Labour Organisation (ILO). MTUC president Khalid Atan (questioned how Dr Subramaniam could have made such a report two years prior to a High Court decision on November 7 this year against the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE). According to Khalid, Dr Subramaniam told the ILO's Committee of Experts on Freedom of Association that the High Court had decided that the Director General of Trades Unions' decision to register a Maybank staff union was valid and within the powers of DGTU in 2011. NUBE had challenged the registration of the Maybank In-House Union in the High Court. Calling the action antiunion and shocking, Khalid said the High Court decision would have far-reaching consequences on the trade union movement in the country. "This will weaken the collective bargaining powers of trade unions in protecting the workers' interest," he said. NUBE general secretary J. Solomon, meanwhile, also questioned Dr Subramaniam's action, saying it had brought the matter to the ILO's attention. "How is it possible otherwise for the minister to be aware of a court decision made only two years later?" he asked during a press conference at the Parliament lobby on Nov 12. The ILO will be writing to the government seeking an explanation," he said, adding that NUBE is appealing against the decision of the High Court. Solomon also claimed the governments decision to allow the registration of Maybank's in-house union was mala fide, or in bad faith. "It was approved within only six days of application, whereas many other unions from other sectors have been waiting years for approval," he added. NUBE has over 3,000 Maybank employees as members, he said. "From 2010 up to now, there has been interference from Maybank's management, forcing its employees to join the in-house union. "We see a pattern of influence from the management and the Human Resources Ministry to deliberately ensure members of NUBE resign and join the in-house union," said Solomon. Solomon claimed the ministry violated the Industrial Relations Act 1967 and the Trade Unions Act by interfering in union affairs and not permitting NUBE members to meet the bank employees. "This weakens the role of the union in bargaining for their (employees) interests," he said. Several opposition lawmakers who were present, including Kuala Langat MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid and Batu MP Tian Chua, said they would raise the matter in Parliament. PERUTUSAN DARI PRESIDEN


Saya mengucapkan syabas dan tahniah kepada barisan kepimpinan baru MTUC 2014 yang bakal menerajui tugasan dan amanat kaum pekerja. Saya juga mengucapkan jutaan terima kasih atas sokongan dan kepercayaan yang diberikan oleh perwakilan dari kesemua kesatuan gabungan terhadap kepimpinan baru ini. Saya mohon jasa baik dari semua rakan seperjuangan supaya dapat memberi sokongan dan bekerjasama bagi menegakkan hak-hak kaum pekerja yang kini sedang melalui satu ledakan yang boleh membawa kesan ke atas kehidupan dan kesejahteraan mereka. Kenaikan harga barangan, pengenalan GST, potongan subsidi, kenaikan kos hidup sememangnya perlu ditangani dengan wajar supaya tidak memberi kemudaratan yang ketara. Pelbagai usaha perlu dilakukan bagi mengatasi permasalahan ini seperti pemberian COLA, pengamalan gaji minima, memberi keutamaan kepada pekerja tempatan, kenaikan gaji tahunan yang wajar, umur persaraan, undang-undang perburuhan yang mampan, dan sebagainya.
