Preview Of Movies For The New Year
Film buffs may be excited to learn that plenty of highly anticipated films are slated for release in 2014. Here is a look at some of the movies that figure to pack theaters in the year ahead. February * RoboCop: A reboot of the 1987 movie of the same name finds a critically injured officer transformed into a part-man, part-robot officer in the year 2028. * Vampire Academy: This story is about a peaceful half-human, half-vampire living discretely within the world until she is forced to fight for her life against immortal, evil vampires hell-bent on her demise. * Pompeii: This film stars Game of Thrones actor Kit Harrington as an invincible gladiator who is in a race against time to save his true love from marriage to a corrupt Roman general. March * Need for Speed: This film starring Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper chronicles a cross-country race against time, pitting a muscle car builder against an ex-NASCAR driver who framed him for manslaughter. * Muppets Most Wanted: The Muppet gang is at it again. During a global theater tour in Europe, the Muppets soon become entangled in an international crime caper. In addition to the familiar Muppet characters, the film stars Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais. * Noah: The movie tells the Biblical tale of Noah, instructed by God to build a wooden ark and save creatures from the impending great flood.

New BodyWorks Program to begin February 4, 2014

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - BodyWorks is a program for parents and caregivers of young adolescent boys and girls aged 9 to 14. The program focuses on helping families create healthier lifestyles. The BodyWorks Program is a collaborative effort of University Healthcare, the Berkeley County Health Department, Change the Future WV, WVU Extension, and Berkeley County Board of Education. This program is also made possible by a grant from the C. Scott & Elizabeth C. Shade Youth Fund from the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation. The BodyWorks Program emphasizes parents as role models and provides them with the tools and support they need to create healthy lifestyles with their children. Families who enroll in the BodyWorks Program will receive a BodyWorks toolkit and will attend regular group meetings to help maintain behavior change. The toolkit includes the Body Basics book, a recipe book, books for specifically for boys and girls, a weekly planner and more. The BodyWorks program is designed to provide families with tools they can begin using immediately, such as learning how to understand the information on a nutrition label, estimating proper portions to avoid portion distortion, and how to have a healthy body image, eat well, and stay active for life. The program brings together families and community partners to promote maximum health benefits for all participants. BodyWorks is a great program that is really fun and motivating for the entire family, said Denise Ryan, Coordinator, Change the Future WV. The program will be offered in 6-weekly sessions beginning February 4, 2014. The session will be on Tuesdays, from 6-8pm at the Byrd Health Sciences Center on the campus of Berkeley Medical Center, Martinsburg. The program is free and open to all. Registration is limited. Volunteers sought at new hospice unit

MARTINSBURG Hospice of the Panhandle will open the doors in March of its new 14-bed inpatient facility. There is a still a need for volunteers to assist with a variety of tasks, such as sitting with patients, helping to organize supplies and materials, or even providing baked goods for families whose loved ones are at the unit. One opportunity of consistent need is manning the reception area from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., seven days a week. These volunteers will provide general information to visitors and families, as well as answer the phone. Three shifts a day are planned 8 a.m.noon; noon-4 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. If you are interested, Hospice is interested in you! The Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) extends a thank you to the community for spreading the word about getting homeless Veterans off the streets during the recent arctic blast. Thanks to cooperation with media outlets getting the word out and our utilization of social media, the medical center was able to provide shelter to a number of Veterans and their families, said Timothy J. Cooke, acting medical center director. If individuals were unable to make it to the medical center we went to their location and picked them up. The operation was successful in enrolling 100 percent of all eligible Veterans who came in during the arctic blast into VA medical center programs, but the fight is not over. The medical center asks for the communities and partner agencies continued support to get the men and women who defended this country off the streets. No Veteran should be homeless. On any given night, there are an estimated 100,000 Veterans on the streets, according to Secretary of the Department of Ve t e r a n s A f fa i r s E r i c Shinseki. Those who have ser ved this nation as Veterans should never find themselves on the streets, living without care and w i t h o u t h o p e . s a i d Shinseki.
