Interviewer: Good morning. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to conduct an interview with you.

Let me begin by asking you about what is a civic organization. Interviewee: My pleasure. A civic organization is a structure which benefits a community. Its members are all dedicated to the same goal and sponsor events for the community. Interviewer: Can you enlighten me about the Philippine Jaycees? Interviewee: Junior Chamber International formerly known as the Philippine Jaycees, registered under the Laws of the Republic of the Philippines, is an affiliate of Junior Chamber International (JCI). We are a membership-based nonprofit organization of 200,000 young people ages 18 to 40 in 5,000 communities and more than 100 countries around the world. Each JCI Member shares the belief that in order to create lasting positive change, we must improve ourselves and the world around us. We seek targeted solutions to the unique problems in our communities to build a better world, creating global impact. JCI in the Philippines is the first in Asia with almost 5000 strong membership spread across 22 regions in the country. Interviewer: I find your organization very interesting. Can you tell me more about your organization by sharing with me your mission, goals and core values? Interviewee: The JCI Mission is to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. Its vision is to be the leading global network of young active citizens. These are the core values being uphold by our organization: a. That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life b. That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations c. That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise d. That government should be of laws rather than of men e. That earth's great treasure lies in human personality f. And that service to humanity is the best work of life. Interviewer: What is your idea about making a world of difference? Interviewee: There is a limit to what governments are able to achieve in society. As responsible citizens in a globalized world, JCI members take on the challenges around them through local development initiatives. These tailored projects require members to use strategic planning and critical planning to craft creative solutions to the problems of their communities. JCI members seek ways to live out our slogan, Be Better. We think critically about societys greatest challenges and act on behalf of our communities to be part of the solution. We seek better solutions to build better communities, creating a better future.

Interviewer: Your organization has long been fascinating. What can you say about the active citizen members of your organization? Interviewee: As global citizens, we all have rights and responsibilities, as well as shared goals. Through active citizenship, we enact our sense of social responsibility to work towards these goals and benefit communities worldwide. Our Founder, Henry Giessenbier, was the original active citizen. He took steps to engage young people in civic involvement in 1914, and JCI members worldwide have followed his lead ever since. Interviewer: The works of your organization is truly worth emulating. How can you address the problems of your community with such international scope? Interviewee: In JCI, the action is local, but our principles and impact are global. Members understand that in a globalized world, their local actions echo across the globe. 5,000 JCI Local Organizations addressing problems in their communities are united in a global movement creating global impact. Interviewer: In order to do that, you must have partnered with other civic organizations for you to properly discharge your functions. Interviewee: As an international non-governmental organization (NGO) with active participation in the UN system, JCIs international partners include big names in global development, capacity building and international cooperation. Our partnerships are based in mutual goals and a synergy with the JCI Mission and Values, creating the maximum impact to support the local work our members do every day. JCI has officially partnered with the UN since 1954. Through the years, these relationships have expanded to include various branches in the UN system as the two organizations collaborate to magnify their collective impact. Interviewer: Are you working together with UN towards the development of UN Millennium Development Goals? Interviewee: Absolutely, In 2003, JCI committed to advancing the UN Millennium Development Goals, a set of time-bound targets for poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women. JCI members organize thousands of projects every year committed to advancing the goals and using the UN MDGs as a framework. At JCIs many Leadership Summits, held in collaboration with the UN, delegates join with representatives from key partners to focus on a current issue and seek workable solutions for members to enact locally. Read more about the 2009 JCI Leadership Summit. Interviewer: What is the Global structure of JCI? Interviewee: Each member belongs to a JCI Local Organization within a city, town or village. Its here on the local level where JCI members take action to create positive change. Each Local Organization is affiliated to a JCI National Organization that coordinates activities on a national scale. The National Organizations are organized in four
