Spanish 3 PBL Project Dear Parent and Student: I am writing to tell you about an exciting project we are about

to do in our class. s you might !now" in our school we use the teaching method o# Project Based Learning" or PBL" to help students learn better. project moti$ates students to gain !nowledge" and they remember it longer. Projects gi$e students the chance to apply the s!ills they learn in school to personally rele$ant and real%world situations. &our child also learns s!ills in PBL such as how to thin! critically" sol$e problems" wor! in teams" and ma!e presentations. 'hese s!ills will help students succeed in the #uture" both in school and in today(s wor! world. )ur project is called #rica y La *ispaniola and it will last about + wee!s starting ,anuary -th. 'he topic will be introduced through the documentary .'he price o# sugar/. Students will learn about the relationship between #rica and 'he *ispaniola. 'he students will be as!ed to do a report and a #inal presentation based on the project(s Dri$ing 0uestion: how has African culture influenced the culture of Hispaniola? Students will be in$ol$ed in researching on the Internet and library" inter$iewing community members" writing a report" preparing a presentation" etc. &our child will wor! indi$idually or in groups 1their choice2. 3ach wee! the students should be responsible #or their own research and #inding new concepts. 'he teacher will pro$ide a chec!list at the end o# each wee! that students will need to #ill out with their new #indings 145 points each wee!2. t the end o# the project students will turn in their report 13 pages in #ont 46 double space2 and create a #inal presentation to the class. 'he presentation will also explain the in#luence o# #rica in the Dominican culture. 'heir presentation could be in the #orm o# a scrapboo!" a mo$ie" a newscast" a story" a s!it" a puppet show" a collage o# pictures" a song or poem" etc. 'hese presentations are schedule #or ,anuary 67th through 8ebruary 3rd. Students will be assessed indi$idually on their content !nowledge" their collaboration s!ills" their creati$ity and their presentation s!ills.
