LosAngelesisacityideallysuitedforbicycling.Itislargelyflat.Itisdense.Theclimateiswarm yearround,andthereusuallyisntprecipitation.Recently,wehavemadegreatstridestoensure thatweareinstallingphysicalinfrastructurethatbuildsonthosepositivefactorsbeyondour controltomakeiteasier,safer,morefun,andmoreconvenienttobicycleinLosAngeles.The creationandacceptanceofthe2010BicyclePlanandongoingworkontheMobilityElements BicycleEnhancedNetworkareindicativeofourcitysrenewedcommitmenttobeingaleaderin safe,lowstressbicycletransportation.Inadditiontotheover100milesofbicyclelaneswe installedinthepastfiscalyear,theBicycleEnhancedNetworkcallsfor120milesofprotected bicycleinfrastructurelikecycletracksandbikepaths,thatwillcreatealowstresscitywide bicyclenetwork.Wehaveambitiousplansinplace,andwereworkingtoinstallMyFigueroaas thecatalyticprojectthathelpscycletracksproliferateacrossthecity.Whilewecannotpointto anyonespecificeventthatprovidednewenergyfortheBikeProgram,overthepastsixyears, bicyclecultureandadvocacyformultimodalismhasincreasedtremendously,andhas increasinglymadebicycleinfrastructureanissuethatpoliticianswanttosupport.
