Line of Sight

Most of the time it will be obvious whether a model is visible or not and whether they are In Cover. Players should ensure when moving their models that it is clear and seek agreement from the opposing player ("I'm moving my trooper to this spot so that your guy over there is clearly visible") to avoid disagreements as much as possible. If the players can't come to an agreement after checking line of sight then they roll off to see who is correct. This should be a last resort and any disagreements should be pre-emptively headed off by being clear when moving models.

What Obscures Line of Sight

Any piece of terrain or model whose height is one less than the tallest model (Active or Target) Obscures line of sight. Terrain with a height of 1 will Obscure line of sight to models with a height of 1. Models with a height of 1 never obscure line of sight. For example, if a height 1 model is trying to see a height 3 model then any terrain or models which are height 2 will Obscure line of sight, since height 2 is one less than the tallest model (height 3) involved.

Example

Checking Line of Sight

A model can be in one of three states; Hidden, In Cover or Clearly Visible. To check line of sight, draw an imaginary straight line from the centre of the Active Models base (the one which is looking) to Target Model (the one it wishes to see). If the line cant be drawn without passing over something which Blocks line of sight then the Target Model is Hidden. If at least half of the Target Models base is behind terrain or models which either Blocks or Obscures Line of Sight then the model is In Cover. Any model whose base is at least partly within area terrain is automatically In Cover, if Line of Sight is not blocked by other means. If a line can be traced to at least half of the models base without passing over any models or terrain which Obscure or Block line of sight then the model is Clearly Visible. Model A is checking Line of Sight to the opposing models in the various terrain features. All of the models featured are height 1. The building and forest area terrain are height 3 and the wall is height 1. Model B is behind a piece of terrain which Blocks line of sight, so it is Hidden. Model C is within area terrain and there is nothing which Blocks line of sight in the way, so it is In Cover. If it was behind the area terrain then it would be Hidden. Model D is behind a wall which Obscures line of sight, so it is In Cover. Model E is not behind any models or terrain which Block or Obscure line of sight, so it is Clearly Visible.

What Blocks Line of Sight

Any piece of terrain or model whose height is equal or greater than the tallest model (Active or Target) Blocks line of sight. Area Terrain only Blocks line of sight for models outside of it, models at least partially within Area Terrain are still visible. Models or terrain with a height of 1 do not Block line of sight. For example, if a model with a height of 3 is trying to see a model with a height of 2, then any model or terrain with a height of 3 or more will block line of sight since the tallest model involved in the line of sight check is height 3.

Line of Sight and units

If all of the models in the target unit are Hidden, then the entire unit is Hidden. If at least half of the models in the target unit are Hidden or In Cover, then the entire unit is In Cover. If less than half of the models are Hidden or In Cover, then the entire unit is Clearly Visible.
