YHAI Malad Unit is one of the 25 dedicated Units of Maharashtra, who under the able navigation of Maharashtra State Branch has made it possible for its members, in last 18 years from its inception, to see what lies beyond the Hill, to peep into the unseen by delineating successful 412 outdoor as well as in-door multi-dimensional events including trekking, hiking, mountaineering, biking, cycling, sky gazing & even need-based competitions, various training, social & educational programs. We welcomes you forTrek Sahyadri 2008(Lonavala - Khandala Region) to serve our goal to help you have the best experience possible in the great Sahyadri range . Simply complete and mail us the Registration form available with State Branches & their respective Units. Reservations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Purpose of the Programme:

The purpose of the programme is to expose the YHAI members to a greater adventure and to rough out the rigors of plodding through snow with a sense of love for nature and outdoor recreational activity aiming at promoting national integration.

Eligibility of age :

No bar for those who are 11 years old & above, but young at heart. However, the age restriction will be strictly adhered to.

Fees :

Rs. 1,525 /- per head by Cash or Bank Demand Draft or Pay Order favoring. YHAI MALAD UNIT Payable at Mumbai drawn on any Nationalized Bank. Which will cover accommodation, simple nutritious vegetarian food, guidance, and equipment. You will however, bear the

to and from travel expenses from your home town to the Base Camp and back.

How to Reach:

Karjat Railway Station on Central Railway is easily approachable from Mumbai CST, Dadar, Kurla ,Kalyan, and Pune which are main Junctions on Central Railway. Dadar Railway Station is one of the most important

stations of Mumbai which is connected with Western line & Central line of Railway and there are early morning trains available for karjat . From Pune passenger trains available at regular interval for karjat .
By Road participants has to come by National Highway No. 4. (Mumbai Pune Highway ) Volunteers will receive the participants at karjat Railway station on Reporting Dates between 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm as per the schedule of trains coming to karjat from Mumbai and Pune.

You may choose to report at the base camp on any of two dates 1st and 2nd NOVEMBER 2008. The schedule will be as follows.

ITINERARY:1st Day (Base Camp Karjat) Upon Arrival at karjatRailway station you will be transferred to base campKarjat. You can wander among the different mountaineering equipments displayed at the campsite & learn the the techniques of usage followed by brieforientation. 2nd Day (Rajmachi Camp 9KM)Your journey starts with a half an hour senic bus ride by State Transport or Local Transport & actual adventure beings from Kondivade with with a 8km walk that promises you awe-inspiring views of Ulhas Valley. Along the way to Rajmachi you will visit Kondhana Caves 3rd Day (Rajmachi Darshan) In the morning there will be sightseeing program of twin forts of Rajmachi. Afternoon group will enjoy some fun games. Evening There will be sight seeing of Lake and Temple sight seeing. 4th Day (Ekvira Camp 14KM)Flat walk through the Valvan village on the bank of Shirota Lake and then a gradual climb will lead to the top of Ekvira mountain from you can watch a panoramic view of Valvan dam and Lonavala city. We will climb down to famous Karle caves. Having sight seeing of Ekvira caves and Ekvira temple group will reach Ekvira camp. 5 th Day (Lohagad 8KM) Trek will start towards Village Bhaje via plain walk of 4 km on tar road After visiting beautiful Bhaje caves group will climb Fort Visapur and then reach Lohagad wadi camp . Evening there will be sight seeing of Fort Lohgad. 6th Day (Back To Civilization) Get ready to go for the brink with the greetings of the cool breeze in the morning for our final destination to Lonavala. Trek will start around in the morning, initially a gradual slope to bank of Pawana dam. After three hours walk via Shiv-khind we will reach Lonavala. There will be a ceremony of Certificate distribution.

Things to bring along with you for the trek:

Rucksack, Cap, Cotton shirts, cotton pants, woolens jersey, monkey cap, hunter shoes of proper fitting & used, pairs of Cotton Socks, one Extra shoe lace, Bedding Carry mat, Bed sheet, medicated bandedputti, torch with spare batteries, water bottles, lunch box to carry lunch.

Mug, spoon, plate, knife, needle-thread, spare buttons, Sun-glasses, Vaseline, soap, toilet paper, towel, handy medicines normally used by participants in their daily routine, Camera with cells & film rolls (optional), chocolates/candy to chew to feel fresh, water purifying tablets (optional), Binoculars (optional).

Safety:

Your security and comfort are of paramount importance. Every effort is made to ensure that each campsite is monitored and operates within our strict guidelines to enhance your experience.

Certificates:

Participants, who successfully complete the trek and abide by the discipline of the programme, will be awarded certificates. Programme Schedule / Route Programme Schedule and Routes are subject to change without prior notice.

Cancellations:

In case you are unable to join the trek after paying the participation fee, you will get a refund of 50% provided your request is received directly in the Malad Unit Office at least 7 days in advance from the date of your reporting. No refund will however, be admissible if such notice is short of 7 days.

Special Casual Leave:

The Trekking Expeditions organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, (Dept. of Personnel and Training), Government of India, vide office order No. 28016/89- Estt(A), dated 25th October, 1989. Participants working for Central Government, can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in a calendar year.

Your Attention:

Please note that this is an environment friendly trek. Do not litter any wrappers or spoil the trail in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or anything left bye trekkers on the way. Please carry the same with you for depositing at the Base Camp
