Una de las formas en las que se han demostrado las conexiones del
cerebelo (y el tipo de modulación que ejercen) con las áreas motoras primarias
contralaterales ha sido mediante la estimulación magnética transcraneal (TMS),
midiendo la respuesta mediante potenciales evocados motores (en controles
sanos). Se ha observado que la inhibición del cerebelo tras la estimulación
resulta en una facilitación de los potenciales evocados en el cortex motor
primario contralateral. Este resultado pone de manifiesto que las conexiones
entre cerebelo y áreas motoras primarias son conexiones cruzadas, conexiones
que ejercen un control inhibidor sobre estas áreas (Oliveri et al., 2005).
