9.1 Plant Organs and Sytems

An organ - a structure that contains different tissues and performs one or more specific functions. Roots, stems, and leaves are the vegetative organs common to plants. Flowers, seeds, and fruits are structures involved in reproduction.

Shoot System: Leaves

Leaves are the major part of the plant that carries on photosynthesis. Deciduous plants lose their leaves every year. (Oak trees) Evergreens retain their leaves for two to seven years (Pine trees)

Root System
Root functions:
Anchors plant in soil Absorbs water and minerals Stores carbohydrates

Most root systems are located underground. Depth and distribution depends on three things:
Plant type Timing/amount of rainfall Soil composition

Root System
90% of a trees roots are located within 1 meter of the surface. Roots extend out much further than the crown of the tree. On average, a trees roots will extend two to four times the diameter of the aboveground portion of the tree.

Faith is the action you Are spurred to do by Seeing with His eyes. Hope is spiritual vision. Seeing Through His eyes. Its underground/ not seen. See people/nations Redemptively & release HOPE into them. (This is prophetic).

Hope Love (Trust) You dont trust. Trust is a choice. Your

roots have to drink. This is a surrender.

I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.

Shoot System: Stems

Stems have vascular tissue that transports water and minerals.
Xylem - nonliving cells that form a continuous pipeline for water and mineral transport from the roots to the leaves. Phloem - living cells that join end to end for organic nutrient (sucrose and hormones) transport from the leaves to the roots
