Gener al Product Specification, GPS- 05- 01, defines the specifications for
HydroTech Syst e m s sta n d a r d Swivel- Ring Flang e s . Swivel- Ring Flang e s with
alter n a t e requir e m e n t s can be design e d and ma n uf a c t u r e d but are outsid e
the scop e of this docu m e n t , altho u g h this Specification may be refer e n c e d in
part.
1.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
A Swivel -Ring Flang e (SRF) is a conn e c t o r which provid e s bolt hole
align m e n t when att a c h e d to a ma tin g sta n d a r d flang e. The SRF consists
of a rotatin g Ring, held in position by a Retain e r Ring and a butt- weld Hub
as illustr a t e d in Figure 1. The SRF Ring rota t e s abou t the Hub providing a
me a n s of aligning its bolt holes with the bolt holes of a matin g flang e,
withou t having to rota t e the entire pipeline or spool piec e.
This is
particularly import a n t for und erw a t e r pipeline constru c tion application s
wher e only a single diver mus t perfor m the tasks require d to align and
mak e -up the flang e conn e c tion.
Swivel- Ring Flang e s can be design e d for any size and pres s u r e rating to
me e t the applicable dime n sio n s and gask e t type s of any recog nize d flang e
specification such as ASME B16.5, API 6A or MSS SP-44. Nonst a n d a r d
Swivel- Ring Flang e s can also be custo m design e d for cert ain application s .
For exa m pl e , application s involving large pipeline s ma y incorpor a t e
feat ur e s such as Teflon rings betw e e n the SRF Ring and Hub to reduc e
rota tion al friction and Hub face profiles for axial align m e n t .
HydroTech Syst e m s maint ai n s an inven t or y of Swivel- Ring Flang e s up to
sche d ul e 80 in nomin al sizes from 4 inch to 16 inch for both 600 and 900
ANSI rating s. The mat e ri al for inven t or y SRF Rings is as specified in the
table of Section 3. The mat e ri al for invent o r y SRF Hubs is ASTM A105
(modified per HMS-1) for 4 inch 600 ANSI throu g h 10 inch 900 ANSI and
ASTM A694 Grad e F52 (modified per HMS-16, Class 2) for 12 600 ANSI
throu g h 16- 900 ANSI. For refer e n c e , dime n sio n al dat a for mos t RTJ ANSI
and MSS Swivel- Ring Flang e s are includ e d on she e t s 5 throu g h 11.
2. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
Swivel -Ring Flang e s design e d to this Gener al Product Specification are in
accord a n c e with the ASME Press ur e Vess el Code, Section VIII, Division 1,
unles s anot h e r recog niz e d code is specified by the purch a s e r , and
applica bl e section s of the flang e specification to which it will ma t e .

MATERIALS AND COATINGS

Stan d a r d mat e ri als and coating s for Swivel -Ring Flang e s are tab ul a t e d
below along with the appro pria t e HydroTech Material Specification (HMS)
and HydroTec h Coating Specification (HCS). All ma t e ri als listed below
comply with NACE MR0175 and hav e controlled carbo n equivale n c y for
enh a n c e d welda bility. The appro pria t e stan d a r d mat e ri al for a particular
SRF
Hub is bas e d on the mat c hin g pipeline ma t e ri al grad e and the appro p ri a t e
stan d a r d ma t e ri al for a particular SRF Ring is bas e d on its thickn e s s .

maint ain e d on file. Upon requ e s t , up to two sets of Quality Assura n c e
docu m e n t a t i o n will be provid e d for all Swivel- Ring Flang e s .
