Rugged PAR Construction To withstand thermal shock and provide greater strength, all Sylvania PAR lamps are made of heat resistant "hard" glass. A few types, such as the medium skirted PAR 38
types, have screw bases. Most higher wattage types have side prongs or end prongs for electrical contact. These bases allow for precise control of elliptical light distribution pattern of the PAR 46, PAR 56 and PAR 64 types. Screw terminal bases are also used in low voltage high current types. TIPAR" stands for the "Parabolic Aluminized Rediameter measured in eighths of an inch. For exam. ple, the PAR 38 bulb is 47+ inches in diameter.
flector" built into every Sylvania PAR lamp. The number following the lamp type gives the bulb
more uniform beam. They're used for short-distance broad area floodlighting and general outdoor lighting.

from many manufacturers. Most are designed with provision for directional control. Various types of PAR 38 holders have self-contained mountings . . . can be clamped on stands or poles. . set on the ground or spiked into it. . . or connected to conduit or to junction boxes. Other types can be mounted on,
or recessed in walls and ceilings.
Spotlights and floodlights can be effectively used in combination where both general lighting and accent lighting are desired. When this is done, spotlights should be focused on the more distant sections and floodlights on the nearer sections of the area to be lighted.
UNIOUE ORIENTATION FEATURE
On the face of all large Sylvania
Outdoor fixtures for higher wattage PAR lamps usually have glass covers to prevent contact with moisture. Correct fixture design allows adequate cooling so safe operating temperatures for lamp parts, sockets and wiring, will not be exceeded. A variety of types is illustrated.
PAR lamps in 200 to 500 watt sizes, you'll find a small oval "directional guide". This indicates the wide axis of the beam on both spots and floods helps in placing the lamp and aiming its light accurately prior to "light-up".

The PAR 38 is designed primarily for outdoor use but can also be used indoors. Special feature is its extra rugged filament hook support to protect the filament against vibration and shock and provide longer service life. Of hard glass construction, exposed PAR 38's can be used outdoors but porcelain sockets must be used.

PAR 64 . . .120 WATT , . . SCREW TERMIT{AL BASE Extremely narrow beam (4V2" x 7") provides sharp cutoff by masking critical reflector areas and using a shield to prevent light scatter. Special coiled coil filament gives maximum candlepower of 2IO,O00. Rated life of 2000 hours is double that of conventional 72O watt, 6 volt lamps with rating of only 1000 hours.
PAR 64...500 WATT...EXTEI{DEII M()GUL ENII PR0NG BASE Similar construction but eliminates light shield for wider beam distribution of B" x 20". Maximum beam candlepower of 200,000 is approximately 4O/s above that of standard 500 watt PAR 64 Narrow Spots. Operates on any standard 120 volt circuit with no auxiliary equipment.

NARROW SPOT
(D
When centered directly on the surface to be lighted (at right angles or zero degrees) the small PAR 38 sizes give a round lighting pattern. The concentric rings show the amount of light measured in footcandles at various distances from the beam center. The round lighting pattern changes to oval or elliptical when the lamp is aimed at an angle. +s" ,,."1 o',1"\ to"
