Why Manchester?
Since the latter part of the last century, its people have inspired a renaissance that has seen Manchester become one of the most vibrant and exciting destinations in the world.
The city has gained an international reputation for modern business and a unique approach to culture and sport. It continues to renew and regenerate, forever a great place to live, study, work and above all enjoy. Manchester, the original modern city, birthplace of the computer and the Industrial Revolution, is a European business capital. During recent years the city has been at the forefront of urban regeneration and is an energetic metropolis with stunning architecture. Todays Manchester is a bustling hub of business growth and commercial investment. Its global reputation for innovation has made the city a major centre for the creative, digital and new media sector.
The culture of Manchester is as rich and diverse as the people. The city has events and cultural attractions to suit every lifestyle. It also has a world-class transport infrastructure, including buses, trams and a train network with connections throughout the UK, plus a major international airport with direct flights serving 220 destinations. And of course the citys love of sport is epitomised by Manchester United FC and Manchester City FC, both competing in the Champions League. Manchester is a big city with a compact and friendly centre. It is a trendsetting music and style capital with a wealth of traditional street markets and local restaurants, pubs and clubs. MBS is at the heart of the city, just a short walk from the centre and all its attractions. Manchester is a city of opportunities: a place to study, to learn and to enjoy yourself.
I think of Manchester as my home away from home. It is a lively city with lots to do. I have met some amazing people here and made some great friends. Mercy Ubani, Nigeria MSc Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, Class of 2013

This is a particularly exciting time to be involved in Information Systems and Technology.New developments in mobile technology, internet marketing and organisational use of enterprise and supply chain systems are revolutionising business theory and practice.
Technology giants such as Google, Apple, SAP, Oracle and Amazon are redefining the business landscape and creating new career opportunities for ambitious managers who are able to bridge the subjects of business and information technology. There are also many opportunities for new start-ups, as technology creates discontinuities and business opportunities for entrepreneurs. The course is designed to capture the inherent inter-disciplinary nature of Information Systems. The topics covered on the course therefore include the underlying technology trends and information technology (IT) infrastructure that underpins business, the strategic application of systems in organisations and markets, and the people element of Information Systems how individuals and groups make decisions, and the role and importance of managers in IT projects. Each of our three pathways is designed to let you customise and tailor your degree programme to suit your own requirements and aspirations. All of them provide a solid base for developing more specialised business and technical knowledge, and will equip you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to develop a successful career in Information Systems, either as a general manager and consultant, or as a technology specialist. You can choose your pathway before joining the course or after you arrive in Manchester and have had the opportunity to learn more about the options from your course directors and tutors. Business Information Technology The pathway combines the human element of computing with the technical design of systems and processes. Systems design for employees coupled with internet marketing for consumers and business customers require individuals who have an integrated knowledge of how people behave and use systems, and also of the underlying technology. Topics covered include how business and IT megatrends are changing business models and how business models are being transformed by the innovative application of technology and systems.

I teach on the MSc Corporate Communications and Reputation Management most years, we have students from about 20 different countries. In my classes, I expect a lot from students: I want them to use ideas that are novel to them and come up with new ways of thinking about the world. My objective is the same in classes and project supervision: to apply good theory to understanding the business world better. Paul Jackson Professor of Corporate Communications
I enjoy working at MBS because of the stimulating academic environment, the diversity of the staff and students and the multiple perspectives this brings to the learning experience. On the MSc Marketing course we get students from very different backgrounds working together from the word go. What I found useful is the link between up-to-date research and practice that has been taught and independently gained, as well as the possibility to obtain presentation skills and practical skills in psychometrics. This year has been a fantastic experience. I recommend it because organisational psychology is an interesting and substantial business area which is taught by excellent teaching staff at MBS. My piece of advice is to be engaged and take in all the knowledge that will be taught.

Its the teaching that I do on the MSc Organisational/Managerial Psychology course that particularly excites me. The students are really engaged, and theres lots of opportunity to teach interactively, which allows us all to hear about some really interesting experiences and to apply the key theories to real work environments. Someone always comes up with a viewpoint I would never otherwise have considered!
Karen Niven Lecturer in Organisational Psychology
The module I teach on, Multinationals and Comparative Employment Systems, contends that employment is shaped by a wide range of factors. The course argues that an awareness of these issues is crucial to a deep understanding of current issues in human resource management (HRM) and industrial relations.
