The sky is an empty corridor through which the Jainko travel and herd clouds. The pantheon is centered on Mari and her court. There are few deities in the Basque pantheon. Basajaun aka Basa-Jaun Basajaun is the Lord of the Woods who taught humans about agriculture and ironworking. He used to live high in the Pyrenean Mountains guarding flocks of sheep and goats. He is now relegated to the Overworld with the rest of the pantheon with occasional jaunts to the mortal world. Basajaun has a malignant nature as well, trapping and torturing humans who ventured into his domain. He is married to BasaAndre, a siren who sits combing her long hair and luring young mortals to their demise. Basajaun is a horrific being gifted with colossal strength and extraordinary agility. In modern times, he has been a simple shepherd somewhere in the Pyrenees and a hunter (of humans in complex mazes and traps). Scions of Basajaun tend to be as malevolent as their father, working in occupations such as prison complexes as the prison warden or as the top inmate, gangs, military, and physical contact sports. Mari aka Mari Urraca, Anbotoko Mari, Murumendiko Dama, Lur, Lurbira, Lurra Mari is the beautiful supreme goddess of the Basque pantheon. As Lur (Lurbira, Lurra), she is the goddess of the earth, mother to Ilargia and Ekhi. She lives underground, normally in a cave in a high mountain in the Overworld. She and her husband Sugaar meet every Friday to conceive the storms that will bring fertility. She is identified with red animals and with the black he-goat and is associated with various forces of nature, including thunder and wind. She is mother to the benign spirit Atarrabi and the evil spirit Mikelats. She is also the judge who tries and

condemns certain less proper behaviours such as lying, stealing, and being too proud. In modern times, Mari dresses in red and seems to glow with fire. As ruler of the Basque pantheon, she continues to take on leadership roles, including moral leadership. She has been an etiquette advice columnist, a political activist for moral and ethical values, and a teacher where she can instill moral and ethical value. Scions of Mari lead moral and ethical lives and tend to judge individuals by those same beliefs. Their relationships with their lovers tend to be intense and stormy. Rivals: Geb, Zeus, Odin, Amaterasu. Sugaar aka Sugoi, Majue, Maju Sugaar is the Supreme God, consort of Mari, and is represented as a serpent or dragon that lives in subterranean caverns and can fly. He travels through the sky in the shape of a half-moon of fire as the god of lightning, sky, and the sea. In modern times, Sugaar has been a cavern guide and flight instructor. Scions of Sugaar are few and he rarely adopts any. Those few Scions love exploration and hobbies or occupations that allow them complete freedom such as a travel journalist. Ilargia aka Ilazki, Illagrui, Iretargui, Ilargi-Amandre, Illargi, Idargi, Argizagi, Goikoa, Ile Ilargia is the moon goddess and Queen of the Witches. She represents the hidden side of nature and existence. She is sometimes good, sometimes evil, but is always treated with the utmost respect. Daughter to the earth-goddess Lur, to whom she returns, and sister of the sun-goddess Ekhi, Ilargia is a goddess of light who shines in the dark for the souls of the dead. In modern times, Ilargia has always been a witch of some sort or a woman with a very mysterious nature. Scions of Ilargia are drawn to the moon and magic, and have a fascination with the dead and spirits of such. Ilargia also likes to adopt Scions who are of a similar bent. Ekhi aka Eki, Eguzki, Iuski, Iguzki, Iduzki, Eguzku Daughter of Lur, Ekhi is the goddess of the sun. A single beam of her light takes away the powers of nocturnal spirits and evil wizards. Ekhi is the protector of humanity and the enemy of all evil spirits. In modern times, Ekhi has been a paranormal hunter specializing in exorcism and a human rights activist. Scions of Ekhi have encountered an evil spirit at least once before learning their true nature as a child of a god. They are drawn to places where the abuse of humans is high to involve themselves in movements to help bring down the evil governments that allow such abuse. Associated Powers: Epic Charisma, Adur, Guardian, Sun. Favoured Attributes: Command, Empathy, Melee, Occult, Politics, Presence. Rivals: Atum-Re, Huitzilopochtli. Gaueko aka Lord of Darkness, Lord of the Black Magic Gaueko is the personification of the night and all its dangers, i.e. spirits and the dead. He sets rules of conduct for both the living and the dead as they travel through his domain. Gaueko walks the night and upon finding someone out night will warn him or her against performing certain tasks without light, urging him or her to go home quickly. If the person obeys, he protects them. But if the person defies or despises the night, Gaueko will be angered and punish the person. Gaueko appears as a great black wolfhound that sometimes walks upright. He is said to eat shepherds and their herds and rape girls. In modern times, he tends to nocturnal occupations, usually to warn humans of the dangers of being alone in the night. He has been a police officer on the night shift (though somewhat of a shady police officer) and any other night shift occupation that allows him to prowl the streets.
