Theplayercontrolsanunnamedprotagonistwhois attemptingtorescuehisloveinterest,thePrincessMariko, fromAkuma'scastlefortress.Thegameexhibitsa combinationofasidescrollingplatformandfightinggame elements.Theplayerusespunchesandkickstodefeat Akumaandhisguardsandmakehiswaydeeperintothe fortress.Thegame,aswithmostatthetimeofdevelopment, lackedcheckpointsortheabilitytosavethegame,makingit achallengetocompleteinasinglesitting.
