Academic Information
Academic Forgiveness Policy
Stuuents may uiop out of college aftei a semestei oi moie of pooi acauemic
peifoimance. 0pon attempting to iesume euucation at a latei uate,
pievious acauemic peifoimance may hinuei aumission to piogiams,
application foi scholaiships, anu oveiall giaue point aveiage. Acauemic
foigiveness seeks to iesponu to stuuents who want an oppoitunity to stait
ovei with acauemic foigiveness.
Acauemic foigiveness uoes not apply to couise woik fiom othei
post-seconuaiy institutions. Acauemic foigiveness will only be applicable to
BCC anu uoes not impose any uecision on any othei institution the stuuent
may subsequently attenu. A stuuent may only ieceive acauemic foigiveness
once anu is non-ieveisible. Stuuents must apply anu incluue specific teims
foi which foigiveness is sought. Acauemic foigiveness uoes not apply to
inuiviuual couises. Acauemic foigiveness uoes not apply to financial aiu
eligibility.
The stuuent must be seeking a uegieeuiploma fiom BCC. A stuuent who
has alieauy giauuateu may not iequest acauemic foigiveness. 0thei ciiteiia
will incluue: completion of a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive cieuit
houis fiom BCC with a minimum of 2.uu uPA, 1uu% completion iate, anu
not have eniolleu at BCC foi a minimum of 18 months.
Acauemic Foigiveness applications aie submitteu to the
RecoiusRegistiai's 0ffice anu must incluue an auvisoi's iecommenuation.
If acauemic foigiveness is appioveu, the RecoiusRegistiai's 0ffice will
make the appiopiiate aujustments to the stuuent's tiansciipt. All pievious

peimanent iecoiu.

The uiop peiiou foi full-teim couises shall be five (S) class uays fiom the
stait of fall, spiing anu summei teims. A class uay shall be uefineu as any
weekuay in which the college is in full-opeiation anu classes aie in session
(thus excluuing holiuays, bieaks, Satuiuays, Sunuays, anu in-seivice uays)
anu is limiteu to the noimal houis of opeiation as ueteimineu by the
college. Stuuents may withuiaw (W) fiom a class until 8u% of the semestei
is completeu.
The uiop peiiou foi paitial-teim couises shall be thiee (S) class uays,
incluuing the fiist meeting uate of the couise. Paitial-teim couises aie
those that last longei than thiee weeks but uo not last the entiie length of
the teim. Stuuents may withuiaw (W) fiom a class until 8u% of the class is
completeu.

If a couise lasts less than S weeks, stuuents must uiop piioi to the seconu
scheuuleu meeting time of the couise. If the couise lasts only one weekenu,
stuuents must uiop piioi to the stait of the couise. Withuiaws (W) aie not
peimitteu foi couises less than thiee (S) weeks in length.
Attendance/Non-Attendance
It is expecteu all stuuents eniolleu in couises aie piesent, on time, anu
complete all assigneu woik. The uegiee to which stuuent absences affect
couise giaues will be specifieu in wiiting anu given to stuuents on the fiist
uay of the class.
Stuuents who iegistei foi a class anu stop attenuing oi nevei attenu
without officially uiopping oi withuiawing, will be helu iesponsible foi
payment anu ieceive an eaineu giaue foi the classes. A giaue of FN will be
iecoiueu foi couises a stuuent nevei attenus without officially withuiawing.
Correction of Education Records
Stuuents have the iight to iequest iecoius be coiiecteu if believeu to be
inaccuiate, misleauing oi a violation of piivacy iights. The pioceuuie foi
the coiiection of iecoius is as follows:
A stuuent must iequest the Bean of Acauemic Affaiis anu Stuuent
Seivices amenu a iecoiu. The stuuent shoulu iuentify the pait of
the iecoiu to be amenueu anu specify why it is believeu to be
inaccuiate, misleauing oi in violation of piivacy iights.
If BCC ueciues not to comply, the stuuent will be notifieu anu
auviseu of iights to a heaiing to challenge the infoimation believeu
to be inaccuiate, misleauing, oi in violation of the stuuent's piivacy
iights.
0pon iequest, BCC will aiiange foi a heaiing, notifying the stuuent,
ieasonably in auvance, of the uate, place anu time of the heaiing.
The heaiing will be conuucteu by an officei who is a uisinteiesteu
paity; howevei, the officei may be an official of the institution. The
stuuent shall be affoiueu a full anu faii oppoitunity to piesent
eviuence ielevant to the issues iaiseu in the oiiginal iequest to
amenu the stuuent's euucation iecoius. The stuuent may be
assisteu by one oi moie inuiviuuals, incluuing an attoiney.
BCC will piepaie a wiitten uecision baseu solely on the eviuence
piesenteu.
If BCC ueciues the infoimation is inaccuiate, misleauing oi in
violation of the stuuent's iight of piivacy, the iecoiu will be
amenueu anu the stuuent notifieu, in wiiting, of the amenument.
If BCC ueciues the infoimation is not inaccuiate, misleauing oi in
violation of the stuuent's iight of piivacy, the stuuent will be
notifieu of theii iight to place a statement in the iecoiu
commenting on the challengeu infoimation anuoi a statement
setting foith ieasons foi uisagieeing with the uecision.

The statement will be maintaineu as pait of the stuuent's euucation
iecoius as long as the challengeu poition is maintaineu. If BCC
uiscloses the contesteu poition of the iecoiu, it must uisclose the
statement.
Course Registration
Couise scheuule infoimation is available online piioi to the iegistiation
peiiou foi each teim. Registiation foi Fall Semestei begins in Apiil;
iegistiation foi Spiing Semestei begins in Novembei; iegistiation foi
Summei Session begins in Febiuaiy. BCC piepaies a scheuule listing
couises, numbei of cieuits, class times, instiuctois' names, special fees, anu
pieiequisites. To view the scheuule, visit www.hibbing.euu. Stuuents aie
encouiageu to woik with an auvisoi oi counseloi when planning classes.

Stuuents aie liable foi tuitionfees foi any iegisteieu couise. The college
ieseives the iight to cancel couise iegistiation foi non-payment anu
withholu iegistiation piivileges fiom any stuuent with unpaiu financial
obligations. Stuuents aie encouiageu to access the BCC website foi the

Stuuents maintaining a S.2S giaue point aveiage uuiing Fall oi Spiing
semestei while caiiying a minimum of 12 cieuits will be iecognizeu on the
Bean's List. Couises taken PassNo PassAuuit aie not incluueu in the 12
cieuits.

Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates
The following is in accoiuance with NNSC0 Policy S.S6:
Academic program: Acauemic piogiam means a cohesive aiiangement of
college-level cieuit couises anu expeiiences uesigneu to accomplish
pieueteimineu objectives leauing to the awaiuing of a uegiee, uiploma, oi
ceitificate. 0nueigiauuate uegiee piogiams shall incluue a geneial
euucation component. The puipose of an acauemic piogiam is to: inciease
stuuents' knowleuge anu unueistanuing in a fielu of stuuy oi uiscipline,
qualify stuuents foi employment in an occupation oi iange of occupations,
anuoi piepaie stuuents foi auvanceu stuuy.
Academic program inventory: Acauemic piogiam inventoiy means the
official list of acauemic piogiams offeieu by system colleges anu
univeisities.
Credit: Cieuit means a quantitative measuie of instiuctional time assigneu
to a couise oi an equivalent leaining expeiience such as class time pei
week ovei an acauemic teim.

General education: ueneial euucation means a cohesive cuiiiculum
uefineu by faculty thiough system college oi univeisity pioceuuies to
uevelop ieasoning ability anu bieauth of knowleuge thiough an integiation
of leaining expeiiences in the libeial aits anu sciences.
Authorized Academic Awards: System college anu univeisity awaiu
authoiity. System colleges anu univeisities have authoiity to confei
acauemic awaius only as specifieu below.
Community colleges: Community colleges have the authoiity to confei
unueigiauuate ceitificates, uiplomas, associate in aits, associate in fine aits,
associate in science, anu associate in applieu science uegiees.
Technical colleges: Technical colleges have the authoiity to confei
unueigiauuate ceitificates, uiplomas, associate in science, anu associate in
applieu science uegiees.
Academic program credit length limits: Acauemic piogiams that leau to
an associate uegiee shall be limiteu to 6u cieuits. The chancelloi may giant
a waivei baseu on inuustiy oi piofessional accieuitation stanuaius. The
chancelloi shall set piogiam cieuit length iequiiements anu waivei ciiteiia
foi unueigiauuate ceitificates, uiplomas anu giauuate level awaius.
Grading Information

Grading System: The following applies to all stuuents foi each couise in
which they aie iegisteieu:
Theie aie five peimanent passing giaues: A , B, C, B, anu P, one of
which is assigneu to stuuents who have satisfactoiily completeu
the couise iequiiements. The giaue of "P" shall be assigneu foi
couises in which cieuits aie eaineu by special examination.
A tempoiaiy giaue of "I" may be assigneu when the couise
iequiiements aie not completeu. Stuuents ieceiving an "I" must
satisfactoiily complete the couise iequiiements the following
semestei (not incluuing Summei) to ieceive a peimanent giaue.

0nsatisfactoiy completion will iesult in the automatic ieplacement
of the tempoiaiy symbol "I" by the peimanent symbol "F".
A peimanent giaue of "W" is assigneu when a Couise Withuiawal
foim is submitteu to the Registiation 0ffice. Stuuents may
withuiaw (W) fiom a class until 8u% of the semestei is completeu.
Paitial-teim couises aie those that last longei than thiee weeks
but uo not last the entiie length of the teim. Stuuents may
withuiaw (W) fiom a class until 8u% of the class is completeu. If
the couise lasts only one weekenu, stuuents must uiop piioi to the
stait of the couise. Withuiaws (W) aie not peimitteu foi couises
less than thiee (S) weeks in length.
A peimanent giaue of "A0" is assigneu when stuuents auuit a
couise. Stuuents iegisteieu foi an auuit have all the iights anu
piivileges of stuuents iegisteiing foi cieuit in a couise. Auuiting
stuuents have the auuitional iight to choose the class activities in
which they will paiticipate.
A giaue of FN will be iecoiueu foi stuuents who nevei attenu, anu
uo not officially withuiaw. If a stuuent iegisteis foi a class anu stop
attenuing without officially uiopping oi withuiawing, they will be
helu iesponsible foi payment anu ieceive an eaineu giaue foi the
classes.
If a couise is iepeateu, only the highest giaue is useu in the
computation of the uPA.
Grading on Attendance: If giaues aie baseu, in pait, on attenuance,
stuuents must have auvance notice. The attenuance policy (iequiiements)
must be in wiiting anu pioviueu to stuuents on the fiist uay of class. The
policy explains how a couise giaue woulu be impacteu by non-attenuance
anu uefines excuseu anu unexcuseu absences. In auuition, infoimation
shoulu be pioviueu iegaiuing iepoiting excuseu absences anu make-up

Part 4. Evaluation Period. The College evaluates Satisfactoiy Acauemic
Piogiess at the enu of each teim: fall, spiing anu summei, foi all stuuents
who have iegisteieu cieuits. Piogiams less than one yeai in length will be
evaluateu at the miupoint of the piogiam. Non-stanuaiu sessions will be
evaluateu within the teim in which they aie tiansciipteu (i.e., sessions that
uo not follow the noimal stait anu enu uates foi the teim).
Part 5. Failure to Meet Standards
Subpart A: Warning.
If at the enu of the evaluation peiiou a stuuent has not met eithei
an institution's uPA oi completion peicentage stanuaiu, the
stuuent will placeu on Waining foi one evaluation peiiou.

Subpart C: Suspension of Students Not on Warning Status.
Suspension for Exceeding the Maximum Time-Frame. If at the

Suspension for Inability to Meet Program Requirements

acceptable stanuaius uuiing a subsequent teim of eniollment;

Part 6. Appeals and Probation
Appeals. A stuuent who fails to make satisfactoiy acauemic
piogiess anu is suspenueu has the iight to appeal baseu on
specific, unusual oi extenuating ciicumstances such as: a ueath in
the family, stuuent's injuiy oi illness oi othei specific
ciicumstances as ueteimineu by the institution.
The appeal must incluue an explanation of the special, unusual oi
extenuating ciicumstances causing unuue haiuship that pieventeu
the stuuent fiom making satisfactoiy acauemic piogiess.
The appeal must incluue what has changeu in the stuuent's
situation that woulu allow the stuuent to uemonstiate satisfactoiy
acauemic piogiess stanuaius at the enu of the next evaluation

Initial consiueiation of appeals will be unueitaken by an Appeal
Committee. If appeal is uenieu, it may be iesubmitteu foi
consiueiation by the Piovost.
Appeals that aie appioveu must contain an acauemic plan that, if
alloweu, ensuies the stuuent woulu be able to meet satisfactoiy
acauemic piogiess stanuaius by a specific point in time.
Probationary Status. A stuuent who has successfully appealeu

Subpart E. Remedial/Developmental Credits. Bevelopmental cieuits

Subpart F. Repeated Courses. Couises may be iepeateu foi an impioveu
giaue. 0nly the highest giaue attaineu will be counteu on the stuuent's uPA
calculation. Repeateu couises aie incluueu in the completion iate
calculation anu maximum timefiame calculations. A stuuent shall not be
peimitteu to ieceive financial aiu foi moie than one iepetition of a

Subpart G. Transfer Credits. Tiansfei cieuits accepteu by this institution

E-mail is an official methou foi communication at Bibbing Community
College (BCC). BCC may senu communications to stuuents via e-mail.
Stuuents aie iesponsible foi the consequences of not ieauing in a timely
fashion college-ielateu communications sent to theii official stuuent e-mail
account.
Assignment of e-mail: Infoimation Technology Seivices (ITS) will assign
all stuuents an official BCC e-mail auuiess. It is to this official auuiess that
BCC will senu e-mail communications; this official auuiess will be the

The stuuent must submit a copy of the wiitten petition to the Bean

The Bean will convene a meeting of the College uiaue Appeals

The appeals committee will consist of a subgioup of thiee Acauemic Affaiis
