Club News
The new swimming season is well and truly upon us and with summer just around the corner it is time to both reflect on a busy winter and look forward to things to come. This is also an opportunity to remind parents, supporters and swimmers of our collective responsibilities. Since Nationals finished in April many things have occurred

A new committee has been appointed and is up and running. We have a new coach and he is really having a great impact on the swimmers. We have a number of new families on board and the enthusiasm they and their swimmers bring is great. We have variety in the program with the introduction of Pilates on a Friday (some of the boys are finding muscles and tendons they didnt even know existed)! Thanks Tania. We conducted an extremely successful short course meet which was not only a great fund raiser, but a terrific advertisement for our club. Our swimmers competed in both the Brisbane and Queensland short course meets was well as the John Paul College meet earlier in the year. They did us all proud!! We have 4 swimmers currently away with Drew at the National Schools swimming carnival in Adelaide. We have a new underwater camera to help with technique and are working with Drew on other equipment he would like to have.

Coach Meetings If you wish to have a meeting with Drew to discuss how your swimmers is progressing or to discuss the squad structure please e-mail us and we can make a time.

Coming up we have Our first 2013 Club night on Friday night Our first trip away as a club to Maryborough to compete in the Heritage City swim meet. We have 35 swimmers competing and a total of 83 people going. It will really feel like a Viking invasion. 2013 Brisbane Open Water Meet Saturday 5th October - Nominations to Helen no later than Friday 20th September 2013 Queensland Open Water Championships 26th October - Nominations to Helen no later than Friday 11th October 2013 Senior Metropolitan Championships 8th 10th November - Details not up on line yet 2013 Queensland Long Course Championships Saturday 14th 20th DecemberNominations to Helen no later than 21st November From a club perspective we are bidding for the date for our long course meet and continually looking at ways we can improve the club for the most important people in it, our swimmers. Fingers crossed, Andrew Murphy has been using his well hidden charm and has a successful business ready to provide some significant financial support this year. Thanks Andrew. Our responsibilities With all this happening, it is timely for us as a committee to not only remember ourselves but also remind all parent supporters and swimmers of our commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for our swimmers to both achieve their goals and have fun. The Club handbook is available at the club website and contains a myriad of information including our code of conduct for all concerned with the club. We take this as our most serious obligation and both the club and each family when you signed up, agreed to be also bound by the SAL ( Swimming Australia Limited) Child and Member welfare policy, which deals with many issues including Harassment Bullying Use of Social media Many other things. A link to these policies can be found on both the Swimming Australia and Swimming Queensland Web sites. The club handbook has the details of how to raise a concern should you have one as well as the contact details of all committee members. As a parent, you can be a member of Swimming Queensland by registering as a parent. This does not cost anything, but gets you access to information, and boosts our club numbers. As a club we also have some individual responsibilities such as not having parents on pool deck during training. This distracts the coach and the swimmers and has been a long held policy of the club. From time to time you might see a committee member doing something on pool deck but this will always be around club requirements. Our most precious assets are our swimmers (sometimes we know it is hard to remember this)! Lets all work together to ensure they both learn the value of hard work and responsibility to each other whilst at the same time have a great social environment in which to grow.

Thank-you again for making this a successful start to our new era as a club. As a committee we are always keen to hear your views and any ideas.
