This procedure covers the minimum of positive material identification (PMI) to verify alloy (non-carbon steel) materials in compliance with the Project Specification and to assure that correct materials are used at the place where intended. 2.0 APPLICABLE CODE AND STANDARDS ASTM Standards. Project Specification. 3.0 EXTENT OF PMI - Body and Bonnet - Pressure containing Welds 4.0 METHOD OF PMI Instrument used to perform PMI shall conform to the following requirements : 4.1 Test Instrument : NITON XLt-800 4.2 The instrument and its sensing head (if any) shall be sufficiently portable to gain access to all items to be examined. 4.3 The output from the instrument shall be a direct reading corresponding to the material composition. The reading may be either positive recognition of alloy grade or numerical output indicating percent alloy composition. 4.4 PMI shall be performed by operator who has been qualified in accordance with the operator qualification procedure which is prepared by SWI 5.0 ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA. 5.1 Alloy verified by an approved analysis method shall contain the amounts of alloying elements specified in Table 1 for ferrous materials and Table 2 for nonferrous materials.

5.2 Welds shall be analyzed and shall contain the amounts of alloying elements specified in Table 3 for as-deposited weld metal. 6.0 RECORDS Results of all examination shall be recorded on reports forms acceptable to SWI, which shall indicated as a minimum for each lot inspected; report number, heat number, lot size, number of pieces or items inspected, analysis results and description of material marking.
