BE SOMEONES FRIEND
Come join a group of volunteers who make people
happy! On Sunday mornings we carpool to our sister
community at the Austin State Supported Living
Center (a residential facility for people who are
mentally handicapped). We accompany residents to a
Catholic prayer service we hold in the Chapel. Many of these folks
are in wheelchairs and could not come to church without us. For
more information, sign up at the front counter; call Kathy Hackett
at (512) 928-1776; or email AustinLivingCenter@utcatholic.org.
Mary and Joseph followed the religious law and customs in
presenting Jesus at the temple. Are we doing all we can to ensure
that those in our care are following the precepts of the Church?
(The precepts are: attending Mass, receiving the sacrament of
Confession, receiving the Eucharist, fasting and abstaining on the
prescribed days, and providing for the Churchs material needs.)

Diocese of Austin Pastoral Plan
The Diocese of Austin is beginning the process to develop a new
Pastoral Plan, an important document that guides the mission and
direction of the Diocese for the next five years and responds to
pastoral needs. To better understand those pastoral needs, the
planning team is hosting a series of listening sessions throughout the
Diocese. These sessions are open to everyone, and it is their hope
that you will take part in this important process. The following
listening sessions will be in English:

Feb. 5, 7 to 9 pm, St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Austin
Feb. 6, 7 to 9 pm, Reicher Catholic High School, Waco

We encourage any interested UCC community members to attend
these upcoming sessions. If you decide to attend, please advise one
of our pastoral staff members so that we know that the UCC has
been represented at these gatherings!
Catholic 101 Sundays, 10:15 am
This group will meet every Sunday at 10:15am in the Our Lady of
Guadalupe Room at St. Austin. Drop-ins are welcome for this
beginner/refresher Adult Faith Formation series! For more info,
email Michael Flahive at mflahive@staustin.org.
Boy Scout troop Assistance needed
If you are a former scout and would like to assist the
new Troop at St. Austin Parish, please contact Ben
Johnson at bensemail@austin.rr.com. An
announcement requesting volunteers will also be
made after Masses Sunday, February 9th at the UCC.
Paulist discernment weekend Feb. 14-16. 2014
If you are interested in discerning a vocation to
the priesthood as a Paulist Father, consider
registering for the Come and See weekend at
the North American Paulist Center in
Washington, DC! The weekend will take place
from Friday, February 14 at 5:00 pm to Sunday,
February 16 at 3:00 pm, though participants are
welcome to stay until Monday. Registration is open to men who are
