Provide computer information, Update this server, and download and installing updates. What is the current time zone configured for this computer? Pacific Time Why does a shield icon appear next to the Change date and time button? It indicates that this process requires full administrator access token and it will display a UAC elevation prompt. What is the current name of your computer? Server 1 What name is assigned to your computer? SEA-SVR1 What network components are installed on your computer? Client for Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, IPv6, IPv4, Link-layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver, and Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder What IP addressing settings are configured by default? Obtain an IP address automatically and obtain DNS server address automatically What is the current name of your computer? Server2 What is the current name of your computer? SEA-SVR2 What do you see when you log on to a Server Core computer? See a blank desktop with an open command prompt window What is the current name of your computer? Server3 What functions can you perform with the netdom command? NETDOM ADD, NETDOM COMPUTERNAME, NETDOM HELP, NETDOM JOIN, NETDOM MOVE, NETDOM RESETPWD, NETDOM QUERY, NETDOM REMOVE, NETDOM MOVENT 4BDC, NETDOM RENAMECOMPUTER, NETDOM RESET, NETDOM TRUST, and NETDOM VERIFY What warning is displayed on the screen? Do you want to proceed <Y or N> What message is displayed on the screen? The computer needs to be restarted in order to complete the operation. The command completed successfully. What subcommands are available from the ipv4 submenu? ?, add, delete, dump Is the computers IP address now statically assigned? Yes

Lab Review Questions 1. In your own words, describe what you learned by completing this lab? I learned how to change the time zone on the server computer, change the name of the computer, how to view what was installed as far as network components, how to set the ipv4 address to a static address, and I also learned what the shield icon meant that is displayed next to the change date and time button. I also learned how to use some of the ipv4 commands under netsh that would need to be used if a server core is installed. 2. Open the Server Manager on your Windows Server 2008 computer. What selections are available to you in the left pane? We have roles, features, diagnostics, configuration, and storage 3. Using the windows Help option, describe any roles and features that are currently installed on this server? Looking at both Sever 1 and 2, neither of them have any roles or features currently installed. 4. Explain in your own words why it is best practice to configure a server, such as a DNS server, with a static IP address rather allowing it to obtain an IP address using DHCP. The reasons for a static IP address to make communication between the computers on the network easier and because it stores the IP addresses of all the computers on the network. The reason why you would not want to use DHCP is because the IP address is only good for so long and if the DNS server crashes and then brought back up, it will have a different IP address, so the computers might not be able to communicate with it. 5. Explore the netsh command menu. Record three commands that you can issue from the command line using netsh, and describe what each command does. Show mode, which show you that the Server Core is currently online. When you issue the command offline, it puts the Server Core offline, which pretty much means it is doing nothing and the online does the opposite.
