Condemn the misogynist remarks of MSWC member and NCP leader

IT'S YOUR FAULT!

Maharashtra State Women's Commission member and NCP leader Ms. Asha Mirje has claimed that the women themselves are responsible for increasing incidents of rape and other anti-women crimes! She asked that whether it was necessary for Nirbhaya (the brave victim of 16 December Delhi Gangrape) to watch a movie at 11 PM? She has pinned the blame for recent rape cases on the victims themselves. Ms. Mirje said that the women should not dress "provocatively" (?!), they should mind their company(?!), should not behave in an "inviting" (?!) way! Such misogynist remarks from a member of Maharashtra State Women's Commission and a prominent NCP leader are not shocking indeed! This only shows the patriarchal and misogynist psyche of those sitting in the ruling establishment, irrespective of the party to which they belong. This also shows that even women can become carrier of patriarchal values. In the last year's protest organized by UCDE against the Delhi Gangrape Case, we made it clear in the loudest possible way that the women of this country do not need sermonizing from the criminal ruling class of this country (the Parliament of this country has dozens of offenders in anti-women crimes and same is the case with different legislative assemblies!); we don't want to be told by the lumpen ruling class what to wear, how to behave, where to go, whom to befriend! We don't want a list of "do's" and "don'ts" from the self-proclaimed vigilantes and moral police of this country. Such insensitive and bizarre comments from a person from a ruling party shows that it is this ruling class which is promoting the culture of rape and anti-women crimes. Instead of telling the men not to rape, they tell the women not to get raped! This shows the reality of all the electoral parties. Other electoral parties have shown similar attitude towards women in the past. We must wake up and expose these electoral parties and their lackey student organizations also. The students of MU must oppose these misogynist comments in the harshest possible way and we must make it loud and clear that the women have the right to wear what they want, to walk on streets whenever they want, to choose their partner, to choose their job, to watch a movie at night! This world equally belongs to the women! We must make it clear that we won't tolerate such kind of moral policing and vigilanteism. We want freedom and we will win this freedom! Oh Freedom! Oh Freedom! Oh Freedom Over Me... And before I'll be a slave, I'll be buried to my grave, and go home to my people, and be FREE!
