We are here to help. This is a FREE introductory/orientation class for you Another great opportunity that has been presented at WWC has been the publication MDNews in the Greater Kansas edition. Dr. Williamson has graced us with another amazing article that has been published in MDNews. Please refer to the MDNews website or ask us for a copy when you stop by We have been fortunate enough to have an intern from Wichita State Universitys Exercise Science undergraduate program. Kristina has been a wonderful addition. Please help us welcome her. Jackie and Kristina have developed a new testing protocol at WWC. This protocol is a combination of screening/assessment tests to help us design your exercise prescription program. Of the 15 or so tests, there will be 3-5 tests for each and every person that walks into the "center". We will begin with existing clients at no cost but soon will schedule those that have been referred to us at a much reduced price for our "kick-off". These tests will be repeated after three - six months of working-out to show progress. There are few, if any, other fitness centers in the Wichita area offering such a comprehensive protocol that is scientifically based and administrated.

Jemal said most of the progress has been made in colon, breast and prostate cancer. These cancers can be screened for and, when caught early, have better outcomes, he said. In addition, decreased smoking has reduced the number of lung cancers, Jemal said. Jemal, however expects a brighter future as screening increases as more Americans get access to health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. Not having insurance is the biggest barrier to screening, he explained. Dr. Anthony DAmico, chief of radiation oncology at Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston believes that these declines are the result of better screening, especially screening for prostate cancer. In addition, new treatments are reducing deaths, he said.
For men, prostate, lung and colon cancer will make up half of all newly diagnosed cancers. Prostate cancer along will account for about one-quarter of the cases, the researchers estimate. Among women, the most common cancers will be breast, lung and colon cancer. Taken together, these will account for half of all cases. Breast cancer alone is estimated to account for 29 percent of all new cancers. From 2006 to 2010, cancer rates dropped 0.6 percent per year among men while remaining stable among women. During the same time, death rates from cancer dropped by 1.8 percent per year among men and 1.4 percent per year among women, the investigators found.

I am sure many of you can relate to the degree of difficulty that the splits require. Myself, I cant imagine. With that being said, there has been research done about how to achieve this position and at the end of the day it is all about practice. Her practice consists of the playground. While other kids are worried about who is going to swing higher, Ms. Victoria is hard at work stretching and training.
Victoria visits WWC twice a week and we stretch and work on different positions to greaten the chances of her reaching her goal. She has worked incredibly hard and I am proud to say that earlier in the month she received her point shoes. We continue to work together so she is comfortable in her ability. Congratulations Victoria on your achievements and we are proud of you here at WWC. I look forward to see what the future holds.

When you feel like quitting: think about why you started.- fitspirationforlife.tumblr.com DARK CHOCOLATE VS. MILK CHOCOLATE
Tis the season! Chocolate may not be such a guilty pleasure after all. If you choose dark chocolate -- chocolate made with more than 60 percent cocoa -- over milk chocolate or white chocolate, it may provide a number of health benefits. Milk chocolate and dark chocolate eaten along with milk do not provide the same benefits. This doesn't mean you should eat unlimited amounts of dark chocolate, however -- it's still high in calories, and can contribute to weight gain if you regularly eat too much. Components Cocoa, which is used to make both milk and dark chocolate, contains flavenoids called flavan-3-ols, epicatechins and procyanidins, which act as antioxidants in the body. The higher the concentration of cocoa in the chocolate, the higher the amount of flavenoids present in the chocolate. Dark chocolate contains a small amount of sugar and vanilla along with cocoa liquor, cocoa butter and cocoa powder, while milk chocolate contains these ingredients along with milk and more sugar. Considerations Flavenoids may help to lower blood pressure, decrease low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, lower blood clot risk, improve cognitive performance and improve mood, according to the University of Michigan Health System. It is also to note that flavenoids may also keep your blood vessels flexible and free of plaque, and lower your risk for certain cancers, including skin cancer. Recommendations Dark chocolate should be consumed in moderation. Although the fat contained in chocolate consists mostly of types that don't raise cholesterol, dark chocolate still contains a lot of fat and calories. Limit chocolate consumption to 1 oz. per day, and choose chocolate with at least 60 percent cocoa content, recommends the University of Michigan Health System. The higher the percent of cocoa solids, the more beneficial compounds you'll consume. Choose dark chocolate that contains cocoa butter, not other types of fat such as hydrogenated oils.
