ADMISSION TO M.TECH. DEGREE COURSE IN ENGINEERING COLLEGES UNDER IHRD, 2013 1.

Introduction

Institute of Human Resources for Development (IHRD) is an autonomous Educational Institution established by the Govt. of Kerala in 1987. IHRD is dedicated to scientific advancement, technological progress and economic growth of the country through human resources development. Today, IHRD with a network of more than 100 institutions ranging from Technical Higher Secondary Schools, and Regional Centres to Engineering Colleges with recognized research centres, play a pivotal role in the field of technical education in Kerala. Applications are invited in the prescribed format for admission of candidates to M.Tech degree courses (2 years) in various Engineering Colleges under IHRD for the academic session starting in 2013. The admission will be made by the respective Principals by preparing rank list from the applications received in each Engineering College. 2. Institutions, Courses, and Intake

3.1 General Eligibility Conditions a) Applicants should in general satisfy the eligibility conditions as prescribed in Clause V of the prospectus for admission to PG degree course in Engineering for the year 2013 published by Department of Technical Education, Govt. of Kerala vide G.O. (Rt) No. 848/2013/H.Edn. dated 16/05/2013. b) Admission shall normally be restricted to those who are included in the rank list published by DTE for M Tech admission 2013 except for Sponsored candidates. c) In case seats remain vacant due to lack of candidates from DTE rank list as above, candidates with valid GATE score will be considered. In case of tie, advantage will be given to the applicants who secure highest aggregate marks up to and including pre final year exam in their qualifying examination. For

specializations under electronics stream, candidates with valid GATE score are eligible for 5% relaxation in marks or grade. d) If seats are still remaining vacant, non-GATE candidates will be considered for admission based on the aggregate marks up to and including pre final year exam of their qualifying examination. e) For Sponsored candidates, minimum of 2 years Experience is required after acquiring the qualifying degree in a job where the minimum eligibility is the qualifying degree. 3.2 Qualifications Prescribed for each Specialization a) VLSI & Embedded Systems: Bachelors Degree with 60% marks or equivalent grade in Electronics & Communication Engineering / Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering / Electronics & Biomedical Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering / Electronics Engineering of a recognized University. b) Signal Processing: Bachelors Degree with 60% marks or equivalent grade in Electronics & Communication Engineering / Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering / Electronics & Biomedical Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering / Electronics Engineering / Computer Science & Engineering / Information Technology / M. Sc (Electronics) of a recognized University. c) Opto Electronics & Communication Systems: Bachelors Degree with 60% marks or equivalent grade in Electronics & Communication Engineering / Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering / Electronics & Biomedical Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering / Electronics Engineering / M. Sc ( Electronics) / M.Sc (Photonics) of a recognized University. d) Image Processing: B.E. /B. Tech degree in Computer Science & Engineering / Information Technology / M.C.A degree / five year Integrated M.Sc degree / AMIETE / AMIE in Computer Science of a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 in a 10 point scale. e) Computer and Information Science: Bachelors degree in Engineering in the branch of Computer Science & Engineering or Information Technology with minimum 60% aggregate or equivalent / MCA degree with minimum 60% aggregate or equivalent / Five year integrated M.Sc. Degree in Software Engineering with minimum 60% aggregate or equivalent / AMIE or AMIETE in Computer Science with minimum 60% aggregate or equivalent. f) Cyber Forensic and Information Security: B. E. / B. Tech in Computer Science & Engineering / Intormation Technology / Electronics & Communication Engineering / Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering with a minimum of 60 % marks

g) Energy management: B.E./B. Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering of a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 in a 10 point scale. h) Thermal Engineering: B.E. /B. Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering of a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 in a 10 point scale. 4. Course structure

Four semester programme with a total duration of two academic years, wherein the first two semesters will include lectures, laboratory work and seminar. Third and fourth semesters will be devoted to a project work in the relevant area of the specialization. The course content will be as per the syllabus prescribed by CUSAT, which will be aligned, to suit emerging technology trends. 5. Course Fee Amount Rs.45000/- per semester Rs.55000/- per semester (for sponsored candidates other than IHRD candidates). Rs.1000/Rs. 10000/Rs.5000/As applicable

Submission of Application

Applications should be filled online (from 20-06-2013 to 1-07-2013, 5:00 p.m) by logging on to the website of the respective college where the applicant desires admission (website address of the colleges are provided in section 2). The different entries in the application are to be filled with extreme care, as this information is used for preparing the rank list. After submitting the application online, the printout of the filled in online application along with supporting documents and a demand draft for Rs.500/- (Rs.250/- for SC/ST candidates) drawn on a Nationalised/Scheduled Bank, in favour the Principal of the Engineering College concerned where the applicant desires admission, payable at the place of the college should be submitted to the Principal of the concerned college on or before 04/07/2013, 5 PM. 7. Documents to be submitted along with the printout of the filled in online Application

A. True copies of the following documents attested by a Gazetted officer i. Qualifying Degree certificate and Mark lists. ii. Equivalency certificate from Cochin University for candidates whose eligibility degree is awarded by universities outside Kerala. iii. GATE Score card (for Candidates with valid GATE Score)

Community and Income certificate issued by the Village Officer for candidates who claim eligibility under SEBC quota Community certificate issued by the Tahsildar for candidates who claim eligibility for reservation under SC/ST quota. Employment Certificate, Experience Certificate and Sponsorship Certificate from the concerned Organization (for Sponsored candidates). SSLC/equivalent certificate mentioning the Date of Birth of applicant. Certificates to prove eligibility for special reservations, if any

B. Demand Draft for Rs 500/- (Rs 250/- for SC/ST candidates) Note: Incomplete applications and applications submitted without all the above documents and DD will be summarily rejected. 8. Selection of Candidates

For the purpose of selection and admission, each college will be treated as a separate unit. Seats are reserved in Merit Quota for SC/ST and other backward communities as per the reservation policies of Kerala Government. The distribution of seats and selection procedure in different categories of seats are as follows. Sl. No. 1. If seats are still remaining vacant, non-GATE candidates will be considered for admission based on the aggregate marks up to and including pre final year exam of their qualifying examination. Unavailed seats, if any, under reservation will be filled up from open merit. 25% seats of the approved intake of each M Tech Sponsored Quota (25% seats of total Programme are under sponsored quota and are approved intake of reserved for eligible candidates from Educational each course) / Research Institutions approved by AICTE / UGC/ Govt/Universities or Industry out of which one seat is reserved for eligible candidates from IHRD. The selection except for IHRD sponsored candidates will be on the basis of Qualifying Examination marks and experience in the ratio 8:2. Minimum of 2 years Experience is required. 4 marks will be granted for each additional year

of experience limited to a maximum of 20 marks. In the absence of sufficient applications in sponsored quota, the vacant seats will be converted to open merit seats and selection will be done accordingly.

Refund of Fees

Refund of fee will be applicable only to students who leave the college on cancellation of admission on or before 17-08-2013. The amount of fee collected will be refunded to the candidates only after the closing of admission for the year. No interest will be paid to the candidates. 10. Liquidated Damages

The candidates who take admission and discontinue studies after 31-08-2013 (scheduled date of closing of M Tech admission 2013) are liable to pay Rs 30000/(Rupees Thirty Thousand Only) plus the tuition fee for the remaining period of the course as liquidated damages. In all such cases the Transfer Certificate will be issued only after remitting the liquidated damages to the authority concerned. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OEC are exempted from this rule. 11. Educational Concession

No educational concession will be available to the students of M.Tech programme except the SC/ST/OEC candidates. The SC/ST/OEC candidates are exempted from payment of prescribed fee on the condition that they will submit application for educational concession from Harijan Welfare/Tribal Development Department in the prescribed form along with supporting documents within 15 days from the date of commencement of regular classes. If they fail to do so, they should pay the prescribed fee. In case of educational concession not sanctioned by the concerned Department, the student is liable to remit the entire fee. Sanctioning of educational concession is also subject to the orders of Harijan Welfare/Tribal Development Department from time to time. 12. Scholarship

Scholarship is available for candidates with valid GATE Score at the rate of Rs.8000/per month vide GO (Rt) No. 67/09/H.Edn dated: 19.01.09 for a maximum period of 24 months subject to the sanction from AICTE and satisfying following conditions. For non-GATE candidates admitted in College of Engineering Cherthala, Adoor and Karunagappilly a monthly scholarship @Rs.6000/- will be given subject to availability of funds under TEQIP grant. a) Each student shall undertake 8 to 10 hours of work per week related to teaching and research activities as assigned by the Institutions. b) The students must secure first class or equivalent during the first Semester examination to become eligible for continuance of scholarship. c) The student shall give an undertaking to the effect that he/she will not leave the course midway or appear for any competitive Examination not related to Engineering and Technology.

This prospectus is subject to modifications as per the decisions of the IHRD authorities, Government of Kerala, AICTE and CUSAT without any prior intimation to the candidates.
