The ACP profiles may be found at: http://www.swan.ac.uk/personnel/informationforstaff/academiccareerpathways Indicative examples of how criteria could be demonstrated are given in the profiles. However it is important that applicants should provide their own examples to evidence the criteria. 2. APPLICATIONS Fellowships)

The procedure is initiated by the applicant submitting an application on form P131432.

Applicants should indicate the strands upon which the application is based and complete only those sections of the form that are relevant to their application. Applicants should also indicate individual circumstances, career breaks or any periods of leave or secondment, or any other absences, for example, maternity leave or breaks for caring responsibilities, which should be taken into account. 3. PROCEDURE

Stage One Individuals wishing to put forward a case for promotion to Senior Lecturer should, in the first instance discuss it with their line manager and submit it to the Head of College. The Head of College will make an initial assessment as to whether the examples given meet the criteria and then submit it to the Director of HR in electronic form, in Microsoft Word format only, by email to Bethan Price at b.price@swan.ac.uk in the Human Resources Department. Stage Two The Academic Staffing Sub-Committee (ASSC) will review the applications recommended by the Head of College for promotion to ensure consistency. If the Committee concurs with the decision of the Head of College, the promotion will be approved. Where the ASSC concludes that a case shall not be recommended, a summary of reasons for the decision should be provided by the Chair of the Committee to the Director of HR who will inform the applicant. It will be the responsibility of the relevant Head of College to offer qualitative advice, feedback and support to the member of staff concerned. The promotions procedure is intended to be developmental. Applicants who are not to be recommended for promotion will be offered an opportunity for feedback on their application through the Chair of the Committee. The University is committed to a policy of equality of opportunity and to maintaining its promotions procedures in accordance with that policy. The SGP and ASC will take account of career breaks or any periods of leave or secondment, or any other absences, for example maternity leave. Declaration of Interest Members of the Academic Staffing Sub-Committee are required to declare an interest if they have any close personal association with an applicant. It will be for the Chair to rule whether this is of a kind to disbar the member from consideration of the case. If it becomes evident subsequently that a member has failed to declare an interest, this will be deemed to be a procedural defect, which could constitute the basis of an appeal.
