To Love Like Jesus

Wednesday, March 20th With Valentines Day (February 14) coming, our thoughts turn to love. So, what does it mean to love like Jesus? In Matthew 22:37-40 (CEB), Jesus had been asked about the greatest commandments, and he replied, You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You must love your neighbor as you love yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands. There is something implicit in that second commandment-to love your neighbor as you love yourself. It implies that you love yourself. At first glance, we might say we all love ourselves. However, we all know those who have served God and others until they reached the point where they have nothing else to give. We have heard of preacher burnout-of Sunday School teachers giving up-of people staying away from church because they have no more to give. Could it be that when that happens, we have forgotten to love ourselves? That we have become so caught up in loving God and others that we have forgotten to take care of our own body, mind, and spirit? In the New Testament we find Jesus spending time alone in prayer, leaving the crowds behind when they were clamoring for attention, and going to Temple and Synagogue to worship. This year, let us commit to loving God, loving others, and taking care of ourselves (body, mind, and spirit)! ~Pastor Cory

Powerful Tools for Care-Givers Family care-giving takes many forms. You may help an older adult with transportation, housekeeping, personal care, emotional support, medical decisions, financial concerns or legal issues. If you do one or more, you are a family care-giver. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational program designed to provide tools you need to take care of yourself. If you take good care of yourself you will be better prepared to take good care of your loved one. As a participant you will learn how to reduce stress, improve selfconfidence, better communicate feelings, balance your life, increase ability to make tough decisions and locate helpful resources. This is a series of 6 classes which begin March 17th, and will be help on consecutive Mondays from 7:00-8:30pm at the OBrien County ISU Extension and Outreach office. Call 957-5045 or email johnson7@iastate.edu for further details.
