Q: I have plenty of work experience in my area of interest but no real qualifications. Can I still apply? A: For many of our courses, experience can be just as valuable as qualifications, so you might not be at a disadvantage. We look at your application on its own merits. Please call us on the number at the top of the page if youre not sure whether youll be eligible or not.

Q: Will I be able to afford it? How do I pay? A: Theres good evidence that getting a university qualification leads to better career prospects and a higher salary. Paying for higher education is an investment in your future. Of course, we understand its a big commitment, so we suggest you look at the various funding options available on page 16.

Q: What do the fees include? A: We want to make sure there are no hidden extras. So our fees include: all the study materials you need and student handbooks your tutors, who you can contact on ilearn or by email whenever you need to your student support co-ordinator, who you can contact by email or phone whenever you need to access to our virtual learning environment, ilearn an online induction process.

Q: I already have a qualification. Will this qualification allow me to gain exemptions from the course and will the cost be reduced? A: It depends on your particular course, and again, we look at your application on its own merits. The best way to find out is to apply. We can sometimes shorten the course if youve got a previous qualification, or even relevant work experience, but cant necessarily reduce the cost of the course.

Studying and study materials


Q: How does distance learning work? A: With distance learning, you follow a UK university course without the need to visit a campus. You study anywhere in the world, whenever its convenient for you. And you choose the pace youre comfortable with. We provide you with all the study materials you need, tutors for academic support, and a student support co-ordinator who will help make your studying successful and enjoyable. Online distance learning makes studying flexible, affordable and interactive. For most of our courses, youll use our virtual learning environment, ilearn, to access study materials, assignments, past papers and our online library, as well as make contact with your tutors and other students.

Q: I work full-time and have a family, how will I find the time? A: Distance learning is all about flexibility. With all of our courses, you can fit your studies around your work and personal commitments. You can study from as little as eight hours per week depending on your course. If you need to take a break from your studies, your student support co-ordinator will be there to help. You will set your own pace. Many of our students have work and family commitments. Read what some of them have to say.

Q: Can I study anywhere in the world? A: Yes, you can study wherever you are in the world. You normally have to go to a campus to sit your exams, but we can arrange a local venue if youre not in the UK.

Q: Are the study materials text-based or online? A: It depends on your particular course. Usually its one or the other; sometimes its a bit of both. If theyre not online, we courier study materials to you. Dont worry, youll get everything you need to complete your course successfully.

Q: Will my qualification be the same one as campus students get? A: Yes, you get the same qualification and certificate you would have got if youd studied on campus at your chosen university.

Q: Do I need a computer? A: We do recommend youre online for all of our courses, and there are specific software requirements for some of them. Please call us on the number at the top of the page for more information.

Q: How many hours per week should I devote? A: It depends on your particular course, but we recommend between 8 and 15 hours. You need to be able to plan your time well and keep the momentum going. Regular study is much more effective than heavy but discontinuous periods of study. You should spend as much time on your study as you would if you were doing a campusbased part-time course.

Q: Will there be any classroom lectures or workshops? Will I be able to meet my tutor face-to-face? A: Unless your particular course mentions it, there are no lectures or workshops. All of our courses are set up for distance learning. But youll be able to contact your tutors or student support coordinator whenever you need to.

Q: What if I need more time to complete my studies, can I take a break? A: If you fall behind, become ill, relocate or need to take a break from your studies for some other reasons, well always do our best to accommodate you. Your student support co-ordinator will be there to explain your options.

Q: How long does it take? A: It depends on your particular course, please see the course pages for details. Generally youll spend as much or as little time as you would if you were doing a campus-based part-time course. A:

Q: Is there a graduation ceremony? A: For most of our courses, youll be invited to a formal graduation ceremony with all the full-time students, usually held on the university campus.

Studying By Distance Learning


Undertaking a distance learning MBA at the Bradford University School of Management is a highly rewarding experience: You will learn new skills which you can use straight away in the work place You will be able to use the knowledge gained to advance your career You will be able to develop an international business network, learning from the experiences of your fellow students. Students are expected to take 2 subjects (modules) every three months. Each module contains 9 study units. Students typically progress by studying 1 unit from each module per week. This equates to approximately 14-16 hours of study per week. If you dont think that you have enough time to study 2 modules over the three month period you can always chose to study just one module, lightening your workload considerably. If work or family life is particularly busy then you can even suspend your studies and restart at a later date. This flexibility means that students can complete the MBA in 2 to 6 years.

In order to provide you with a solid foundation you will study ten compulsory modules covering key business and managerial disciplines. Once you have gained the required managerial skills and knowledge during Cycle 1 of your studies you will then be required to complete four Cycle 2 modules. The module explores institutional structure and the behaviour of international currency markets enabling you to analyse and evaluate the economic factors that affect the foreign exchange rates. Management Project
At the end of your taught studies you will be required to put into practice what you have learnt during the various modules and complete a 12,500 15,000 word management project. The University of Bradford allows its students a great deal of flexibility in their management projects. For example, you may wish to reflect on your academic learning and apply it to a problem currently facing the organisation you work for. You may wish to investigate an issue effecting not just one organisation but an entire industry, or you may wish to conduct desk based research really getting to grips with all the academic arguments and issues surrounding a subject area in order to develop a new management framework. Throughout the project you will be guided by an experienced academic and you will have access to the School of Management Effective Learning department. The Effective Learning service often proves to be very useful providing students with a clear understanding and guidelines on what is required in order to successfully complete their project.

Once a student has registered for the management project they are allowed up to 12 months to complete the project. As a general guide the programme can be completed in 2-6 years. On average students take 2 - 3 years to complete the programme.

Duration of Programme
The Bradford University School of Management distance learning MBA allows students to vary the speed of their progression through the programme to suit their own individual needs. As such, you can choose to take just one module in a quarter or defer your studies altogether (for a maximum of 1 year). Distance learning students usually however study 2 modules every 3 months. All applications are considered on their individual merits and will be assessed using a collective approach, which takes into account professional status and work experience as well as academic achievement. Work experience Candidates must have at least 3 years postgraduate work experience, which can be from any industry, including both private and public sectors, and charitable organisations. Academic & professional achievements You should have a good first degree awarded by a UK university or overseas equivalent, or a relevant professional qualification. If you do not have a first degree or professional qualifications you will need to demonstrate significant management or business leadership experience (normally 8 years). We will also consider an academic recommendation based on interview. Numeracy & literacy competences We will require evidence of numeracy and literacy competences, and depending on the information provided at application, you may need to complete an authorised online aptitude test such as the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or School equivalent.

6. Marketing The module provides an insight into just what marketing is along with the fundamental marketing theories managers need to be aware of. All these issues and the debate regarding the value and benefits of diversity, localisation, development and global trading relationships are key issues in this module and you will consider: Efficiency as a business and supply chain objective - consequences and system optimisation The concept of resilience and diversity in respect of materials, resources, energy meanings and implications for business Circular economy in a development context - opportunities and challenges Government, regulation and the role of institutions

Management Project
At the end of your taught studies you will be required to put into practice what you have learnt during the various modules and complete a 12,500 15,000 word management project. The University of Bradford allows its students a great deal of flexibility in their management projects. For example, you may wish to reflect on your academic learning and apply it to a problem currently facing the organisation you work for. You may wish to investigate an issue effecting not just one organisation but an entire industry, or you may wish to conduct desk based research really getting to grips with all the academic arguments and issues surrounding a subject area in order to develop a new management framework. Throughout the project you will be guided by an experienced academic and you will have access to the School of Management Effective Learning department. The Effective Learning service often proves to be very useful providing students with a clear understanding and guidelines on what is required in order to successfully complete their project.

So that you can monitor your progress as you work your way through each module there are a number of opportunities for formative assessment (i.e. assessment that will not count to your overall grade). For example, you will be invited to submit 2 pieces of work to your individual tutor. Your tutor will read through the work and provide you with feedback. In addition to this, you will be encouraged to complete a series of online multiple choice questions for each unit studied. Exams can be sat at the University of Bradford, RDIs Head Office in Coventry or can be arranged overseas via the British Council or at a recognised overseas academic institution at additional cost.

Through completing 2 modules every 3 months by the end of year 1 students will have studied the equivalent of 8 modules. In year 2, progressing at the same rate, students take the remaining 4 compulsory modules and 2 elective modules. The completion of these remaining modules takes 9 months. In the final 3 months students start (and can complete) the management project. Many students see the management project as a key part of the MBA experience, putting the skills they have learnt into practice. To facilitate this learning experience Bradford allow students to register for the management project twice a year. Once a student has registered for the management project they are allowed up to 12 months to complete the project. As a general guide the programme can be completed in 2-6 years.

Duration of Programme
The programme has been designed so that you can manage your progress ensuring the learning experience meets your individual needs. As such, if work or family live is particularly busy you can choose to take just one module in a quarter or suspend your studies altogether (for upto a maximum of 1 year). Distance learning students usually however, study 2 modules every 3 months. Each module is split into 9 units (8 learning units and 1 revision unit). Students are expected to work through 1 unit per module per week. This format ensures that students have a number of weeks at the end of the module for examination revision (if the module is assessed by an exam) assignment work and general recuperation.

Programme Assessment
In order to ensure that you have gained the required skills and knowledge you will have to successfully complete a form of assessment for each module. The assessment may be an individual written assignment, an exam or a mixture of both.

All applications are considered on their individual merits and will be assessed using a collective approach, which takes into account professional status and work experience as well as academic achievement. Work experience Candidates must have at least 3 years postgraduate work experience, which can be from any industry, including both private and public sectors, and charitable organisations. Academic & professional achievements You should have a good first degree awarded by a UK university or overseas equivalent, or a relevant professional qualification. If you do not have a first degree or professional qualifications you will need to demonstrate significant management or business leadership experience (normally 8 years). 6. Strategic Investment Management


This module will provide you with opportunities to anticipate risk and develop risk management strategies to minimise it. After completing this module you will be able to: Analyse a situation to indentify key contractual risks. Demonstrate an understanding of relevant legal principles. Identify alternative methods to minimise risk. Contribute to management decision making.

1. International Management
This module aims to critically evaluate the impact of a changing world environment on international business and develop a range of management solutions in response to these changes. A key theme that runs through this module is the development of cultural awareness in doing business on a global stage.

4. Managing the Human Resource


This module will help you to develop critical awareness of the contribution the human resource can make to workplace effectiveness. It will develop your ability to apply theoretical human resource models and concepts to a wide variety of work situations. This module is also designed to stimulate your thought on

7. Performance Management
This module will provide you with an understanding of the nature and role of strategic planning within an organisation and of the impact of wider global and non-financial issues on this process. You will be able to critically examine a wide range of strategic performance measurement techniques and models including non-financial performance indicators. After completing this module you will be able to: Critically analyse and apply a range of strategic planning models Respond to the differing control needs within a product or service life cycle and within divisions of an organisation Calculate and interpret a range of strategic performance measures such as Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) and Return on Investment (ROI). Use financial models to predict potential business failure. Appreciate the impact of strategic performance measurement on the human resource within an organisation

9. Dissertation
You will be required to undertake a 20,000word dissertation.

Exemptions
For this qualification we may allow you to count credit for relevant study you have already done elsewhere. For example, holders for the BTEC Level 7 Advanced Professional Diploma in Management Studies will be eligible for advanced standing. For other equivalent qualifications exemptions are considered on an individual basis when you submit an application form. Please note that we cannot consider work experience alone for exemptions.

Assessment
You will complete two assignments with accompanying presentations, four assignments of 4,000 words, two open-book 24 hour assessments and a dissertation of 20,000 words.

Duration of Programme
This course is expected to be completed within 2.5 years. However, our online distance learning students have flexibility in setting their own pace of study, which means that the course can be completed in a minimum period of 1 year.

Entry Requirements
An undergraduate honours degree at a minimum of 2:2, plus at least two years professional full-time work experience English ability to an IELTS score of 6.5 for overseas candidates who have not previously studied in English Applicants who have substantial managerial experience and are able to demonstrate an ability to successfully complete the programme may be admitted where they do not possess degree equivalent qualifications.

8. Research Methods
This module will provide you with a conceptual framework from which research philosophies, strategies and methods associated with business management can be critically reviewed. You will develop research competencies, in particular those relating to data collection and analysis, that will enable you to design, undertake and evaluate independent research in an organisational setting. After completing this module you will be able to: Critically appraise research undertaken by others. Propose and justify a report for a research project in business management that will stand up to critical scrutiny. Critically appraise the contribution primary and secondary data sources can make to research studies, particularly with respect to sampling, statistical analysis and data presentation techniques. Synthesize research findings to improve the quality of decisions in management.
