JOB DESCRIPTION OF A MERCHANDISER

December 27, 2012 at 12:13am Merchandising is a global process through which products are sourced, price fixed, produced & distributed all over the world.

Therefore, merchandiser have the leadership for the below chain work :

1. Product development 2. Pricing 3. Order confirmation & collection of PO , Master L/C. 4. Approval of fabric & accessories. 5. Approval of samples 6. Approval of wash standard, print, embroidery etc. 7. Arrange to open back to back L/C 8. Procurement of all approved materials 9. Follow-up production of order with AQL 10. Shipment of product on time.

1 ) Product Development :

It includes the following works :

Receiving product package including spec sheet. Calculate cost of fabric, accessories, wash, print & embroidery Calculate garments FOB/ CNF cost Produce developmet sample (Proto / conter/ seal sample) Final order confirmation

2) Pricing :

Fabric cost = Fabric consumption in yds x fabric price / yds Accessories cost = All accessories including thread , button, labels, poly etc. Wash cost = Cost depends on wash like garments wash, stone wash , enzyme wash.

Print cost = cost depends on design & color Embroidery cost = Cost depends on number of stitch of the design

Total Garments FOB cost = Fabric + Accessories + Wash + Print + Embroidery + CM + Profit + others

3) Order confirmation & collection of PO/ Master LC :

Buyer will place order after confirmation of garments FOB price, seeing proto sample & aggrement of garments shipment schedule.

Buyer will provide PO & Master LC. Then need to proceed booking of fabric & accessories from different sources & to proceed fit sample for approval.

4) Approval of fabric & Accessories :

Buyer will provide fabrication & fabric construction. Most of the buyer has their nominated fabric supplier where they already approved the fabric quality. When buyer do not have any nomination , merchandiser have to provide fabric swatch to approval of fabric quality from their fabric source.

Accessories is the same procedure as fabric.

5) Approval of samples :

Fit is the primary sample which need to approve before start bulk production. Next is pre production (PP) sample to be made by the production floor where this particular style order will produce.

6) Approval of wash standard, print, embroidery etc :

If garments has wash need to establish wash hand feel & color approval. If it is heavy wash need to establish wash shade band approval before bulk production. For print & embroidery , need to take color & design approval from buyer.

7) Arrange to open back to back LC :

Need to arrange open back to back LC for fabric & accessories , local items from Master LC received from buyer.

8) Procurement of all approved materials :

To follow-up shipment of imported items as per schedule & delivery of local items, all must reach in-house before bulk production

Receive store inventory report & to tally short / excess qty & act accordingly.

9) Follow up production of order with AQL :

Before start production need a pre-production meeting with buyers QC, production incharge, cutting incharge , finishing incharge, production QC, merchandiser & central QC.

During production garments quality must be ensure with the help of central quality people to be maintain as per buyers AQL level. To keep record of day to day production quantity so that shipment schedule should not fail.

8) Shipment of the garments :

Before Final Audit by buyers QC , central QC will do pre-final audit as per buyers AQL standard. When find satisfactory should invite buyers QC for final audit.

Before final audit you should book space to Buyers consolidator shipping agent to ship goods in time with appropriate feeded vessel to catch Mother vessel at Singapore to reach goods at destination on time.

To collect inspection certificate from buyers local office & submit to export section to make shipping documents.

8) Sourcing & procurement of Fabric, Accessories

Four sourcing & procurement of fabric & accessories merchandiser must do following:

1. Selection of source 2. To check the past performance & market reputation of the source 3. Lead time taken by the source 4. Sampling & testing facilities 5. Quality control done by the source 6. Co-operation & quick response by the source 7. Production capability of the source 8. To check the available quality of the product 9. Communication facility available with the source
