Whoops! Jason Grabinger Pathfinders Leader Hello parents!

Tonight you should be getting a newsletter for last week as well as this week as I forgot them at home! Also, due to some scheduling issues we did not have our guest arrive, but we did still have fun learning a bit more about our namesake. Also included are some helps to learn the assigned verse, but since I forgot those also, we will be pushing that back a week. Finally, this issue will be short and sweet because I am simply attaching my meeting notes. They are packed with verses to help the girls learn more about the trinity and the persons of God. I promise next week will be a much more back to normal format. Thanks for the hard work you and your children have been putting in. It definitely shows. I hope you were all able to make the potluck which was so good!! Another fun event was the lock-in. Tonight we will be signing a thank you card for Westwood Church who let us come and use their facilities. God bless and stay warm!! MEETING NOTES 11/11/13 BEADS/INTRO WHO IS GOD? WHAT IS GOD LIKE? WHO ARE THE 3 PEOPLE OF GOD? God is one person, but there are three people who make up God. Each of these people are God, but they are also separate. This can be hard to understand. -Egg Activity: Who knows what this is: (talk about egg) Its one egg, but even though its just one egg, it has three parts to it; the shell, the egg white, and the yoke. Each of th ese parts is egg, but each part is separate. This is also called the trinity which just means the 3 parts of God are all just one God. The first part of the trinity is the father. We call him the heavenly father because he is the father of everything, he created the whole world, everything in it, and each of us. Matthew 6:7 says - "Our Father who is in heaven, blessed be your name." Jesus told his disciples to pray to their father in heaven. His instructions are for us too. When we are sad, lonely, confused, happy, or thankful we can pray to our father in heaven. WHAT DO FATHERS DO? (Take care of us, teach us, encourage us, know about us, lead us, feed us, etc.) God gives us fathers and mothers, and people who care about us to take care of us, to teach us, and encourage us on earth, but all children have a heavenly father. Our heavenly father, God, knows exactly what we need and he gives it to us: Matthew 6:8 says - "God knows what you need before you even ask him." God knows everything about you. He can see if you are sad, or angry, or upset and only God can always help you with your problems. Jesus had a great father here on earth, but his father didn't always understand him. One time Jesus' parents realized that they had left him behind in Jerusalem after walking a whole day. They had to walk all the way back and searched for him for three days in the big city before they found him. When Jesus saw how upset they were he was surprised that they didn't know where he had been. When he saw them he said, "You should have known I would be in my father's house." (Luke 2:40-52) Can you think of a time you thought your Dad should have understood how you felt, or understood the reason you did something you did? Only God our Father can know our hearts fully. God is forgiving and kind to us: I will read Psalm 86:5 - My Lord, you are good and merciful. You love all those who call to you for help. Jesus told a story about a young man who ran away, lived foolishly, and then returned when he had nowhere else to go. This young man had nothing left, all his friends had left him, and he had nothing to eat. He went home hoping to be hired as a servant by his father because he knew he didn't deserve any better. When he finally made it home, he was surprised to see that his father had forgiven him and welcomed him back with open arms even after all the bad things he did. (Luke 15:11-32) You can trust God, his love is perfect, everlasting, and it never changes: Jeremiah 31:3 says - The Lord says, I love you with a love that lasts forever. That is why I kept showing you kindness. Hebrews 13:8 says - "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever." Job 34:19 says he - He does not respect leaders more than other people. And he does not respect the rich more than the poor. God made everyone. Even the best father here on earth cannot compare to our father in heaven. On earth fathers make mistakes, get tired and cranky, forget things, and sometimes say things they shouldn't, and can't understand us completely, etc., but God tells us to honor our fathers and mothers. You should be very thankful for the people God has given you to take care of you, and thank him for being the all-loving, all-caring, all-knowing father that he is.

The second person in the trinity is the son. Who can tell me the name of the son? WHO IS JESUS? WHAT DID JESUS DO? WHAT IS JESUS LIKE? In the bible, Jesus tells us about how we should live. He is an example to us because Jesus never ever sinned. Its our job t o know how Jesus lived here on earth, and to work hard to be more like him. We can know a lot about Jesus from the bible, he tells us all about himself. There are lots of places in the bible where Jesus says I AM. These I AMs are very important to know. In John 6:48-51 he tells us that he is the Bread of Life: Our bodies need food to live (like fruits and vegetables), but food wont get us to heaven. Our hearts need Jesus. When we accept Jesus, we will live forever. Plus He makes it so that we are satisfied. In John 8:12 he tells us he is the Light of the World: This world is dark with sin, but Jesus gives us light. He takes our sin away and shows us (like a flashlight) how to walk in the dark and where to go next. He says I AM the Gate for the Sheep in John 10:7-9: In the sheep pen, the shepherd was like a gate or a door, letting sheep in and protecting them. Jesus is the gate to God the only one. We have to go through the gate (or door) to see God and be saved from our sins. He says he is the Good Shepherd in John 10:14-16: Just like a shepherd takes care of sheep, Jesus takes care of us. He will do anything to save His sheep, even die for them. And thats what He had to do so that we might have life. Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life which is in John 11:25-26: When Jesus rose again, He defeated death. Death doesnt have to make us afra id anymore, if we have Jesus in our hearts. Not only that, but Jesus is life! Those who follow Him have, Life to the full! He tells us from John 14:6 that he is the Way, the Truth, and the Life: Jesus is the only way to God. He is everything true. He is life for those who follow Him! And he says that he is the True Vine in John 15:5: Jesus is the vine, His followers are the branches. The branches need to have the vine to grow. If they dont, theyre going to fall off and be of no good. We all need to stay connected to Jesus (through His word, church, prayer) in order to grow. The third person in the trinity is the Holy Spirit. WHERE DOES THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVE? WHAT DOES HE DO? WHAT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT LIKE? Jesus tells us about how we should live, but the Holy Spirit is what helps us to do that. He lives inside everyone who knows and loves Jesus and helps them live like Jesus would want them to. We each get the Holy Spirit when we accept Christ and repent of our sins. If we have accepted what Jesus has done for us on the cross, the Holy Spirit makes His home inside of us. When the Holy Spirit is part of our lives, He does a bunch of things! He gives us courage to tell others about Jesus, He teaches us, He gives us peace and calm, and He helps us to feel bad when we do wrong and makes us strong to do whats right, even if its not what we want to do. When we have the spirit, we show things to others about ourselves. Its like the fruit that a tree grows. If you are the tree , the fruit you produce with the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and controlling ourselves well. The Holy Spirit is a person and we can actually make the Holy Spirit sad when we make wrong choices for our lives. The church is not just a building that we go to on Sunday mornings. It is a group of believers, who each have the Holy Spirit in their lives. Its always good to have ways to remind us of the three persons of God, we are going to each make a decoration we can hang up at home to help us do that.

Lets all go around and each share how we are going to love God this week.
