Steps of Koha Live DVD Installation

1. Insert the live DVD in CD/DVD driver and restart the computer, than select the computer to boot from CD/DVD driver. You will get the following screen. Please select the third option if you want to install it on computer OR first option if you want to test koha without installation on computer than press Enter.

2. You will get the following option to choose the Language so just click the Continue option.

3. It will analyse Disk space, power source and internet connectivity and you need choose, whether to install updates and other third-party softwares while installing OS (it may slow down the installation). Do not select anything just Continue.

4. This is most important step, here you have to choose one option out of three, if you want to use computer only for koha installation (Single boot) than select option Second (erase everything and reinstall) or select option third (something else) as shown in the below screen if you want dual boot i.e. windows and koha and continue. PLEASE NOTE IF YOU CHOOSE SECOND OPTION THAN YOU NEED NOT TO FOLLOW PARTITION STEPS.

5. You can see free space in the next screen which is due to deletion of any windows driver (D/E/F etc.) for the installation of koha/ubuntu through windows os. Select the free space and double click over it/New partition table.

6. Enter 500 and select /boot as shown in the next screen and press OK

7. Again select the free space and double click it as shown in the next screen.

8. In this step enter all the figures by subtracting double of your RAM, for example if your computer RAM is 1 GB than subtract approx. 2000 from the rest space as shown in the below screen and select / (root) from the drop down menu than press OK.

9. Select the free space and repeat the above step.

10. Just you have to select swap from drop down list than press OK

11. Now just hit install now as shown in next screen.

12. Click over your country to set the timings zone as shown in below screen and continue.

13. Just press continue.

14. The below screen will take some time depending upon the speed of computer so please wait until you are not getting massage of installation complete and restart your computer. If computer asks to fill some fields please enter user name koha and password koha123

15. After restarting the system you will get the following window after log in to the KOHA user and password koha123, click over the Mozilla browser to view koha OPAC and Staff Client.

Database Backup Hourly backup will be deposited directly in your PENDRIVE just you need to insert your pen drive and rename/name it KOHA. So you need not to take manually backup files. Hourly backup will also automatically deposit in the folder- /home/koha/koha-backup. Each day backup will be deposited in /var/spool/koha/library folder also and it stores two days backup by eliminating older ones automatically.

Database Restoration Copy koha_library.sql.gz database backup to /home/koha folder and extract the file in the same folder (file name would be koha_library.sql) Open Terminal and apply the following commands: sudo su Then enter system password mysql -uroot -p koha_library < koha_library.sql Enter the MySQL root password "mysqlkoha" Rebuild Zebra Run following command in a terminal: sudo koha-rebuild-zebra -v -f library Upgrade Koha Execute following commands in a terminal. sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Customization of Koha Home page The home page of Koha has been highly customized in such a way that one can use Koha as their library OPAC cum Website with little efforts.
