Elite volleyball players demonstrate many personality traits. They will have a passion, a purpose and a drive to succeed. Play to win rather than compete not to lose is the key. The following characteristics are often used to describe an elite player: Self aware Self belief and trust in ability holistic approach dedicated/ drive/ committed reflective analytic focused athletic disciplined/ persistent

The systematic training approach should be followed consistently at every session. Students learn to think about and reflect upon their performance by emulating the model set by the coach. As students of the game, players must be prepared to reflect upon their performance and seek to improve at every possible opportunity. This can be achieved by developing the following: Pre match goal setting Post match reflection and feed forward Use of training diaries to log thoughts and feeling.

Players must be aware of their personal performance throughout training and match time. They must possess self control, belief and trust their instincts throughout the growth. Players must be mentally aware of their spiritual, social, emotional and moral values and be prepared to grow them in conjunction with technical and tactical knowledge of the game.

Imagination can be more important than knowledge. We can assume that knowledge is limited however, the advanced volleyball player will use their skill and imagination to apply this knowledge and enhance the teams performance. This is life long learning and will prepare our students to become great players and model citizens
