ABOUT THIS WORKBOOK


This workbook has been prepared to assist you in following the correct procedure for break-in, Servicing,
Repair, operation and maintenance of your new John Deere tractor.
Your tractor has been designed and built to give maximum performance, with good fuel economy and ease of
operation under a wide variety of operating conditions. It also describes the functional relationship of
components and the supporting equipment within the complete system. To maintain this condition and
ensure trouble free performance, it is important that the routine services, as specified in this workbook are
carried out at the recommended intervals.
Read this workbook carefully and keep it in a convenient place for future reference. If at any time you require
advice concerning your tractor, do not hesitate to contact your authorized John Deere dealer. He has trained
personnel, genuine John Deere parts and necessary equipments to undertake all your service requirements.
All data given in this book is subject to production variations. Dimensions & weight are approximate only and
the illustrations do not necessarily show tractors in standard condition. For exact information about any
particular tractor, please consult your John Deere dealer.

Who should read this workbook?


This workbook provides advice for the how to dismantling and Assembling tractor parts and its adjustment
setting for proper working of tractors. This document also applies to those using tractors for other activities,
such as lifestyle farming, green keeping, and boating and public land management.

Why should you read this workbook?


This manual covers the various types of auxiliary power generating systems. It provides the major
components of these systems. It includes operation of the system components and the routine maintenance
which should be performed on these components. It also describes the functional relationship of these
components and the supporting equipment within the complete system. It includes operating instructions,
standard inspections, safety precautions, troubleshooting, and maintenance instructions.

Introduction
Dear learner,
This book is a compilation of technical information to help the user to know the technology of John Deere
and make the best use of this in your regular work.
This workbook provides a good support to user about 5000 technical specifications, major components,
dismantling - assembling, its adjustment and setting and theory of operation. The information contained is
comprehensive and essential, and is designed to assist you, even if un-experienced, in utilizing your tractor.
How well your tractor continues to give satisfactory performance depends greatly upon the manner in which
it is operated. It is, therefore, requested that this workbook be read carefully and kept ready for use so that
the operation and maintenance service will properly be carried out in order to keep the tractor in top
mechanical condition at all times. Should any information as to your tractor be required, consult your local
dealer or distributor stating the chassis and engine serial numbers of the tractor concerned. We are sure you
will be happy with your tractor.

Transmission
Clutch System:

In C and D platform clutch pedal free play distance is 15 to 20 mm and thickness of


traction clutch disk is 10.6 mm.

In E platform clutch pedal free play distance is 20 to 25 mm.

In Dual Clutch Traction clutch finger height is 12 mm and PTO clutch finger height is 51 mm.

Check Clutch pedal free play after every 250 hours

Rolling Drag:
It is the force required to start turning the differential drive shaft. In D & E Platform Force should

Hydraulic
Adjustment and Setting in JD Rockshaft
1. Rockshaft Lever Friction Adjustment
This adjustment is required to keep Position and draft levers in their set positions.
2. Position Feedback linkage
For this adjustment to ensure that the lift arms have the proper range of motion. Turn adjustment
nut (A) so there is 3 mm Clearance between arm (B) & Pin (C).

3. Lift Height Adjustment


Measure distance from top face of Differential housing (D) to center of lift arm pin. If distance is
more or less than 315 2 mm then adjustment is required.

A - Front Axle Toe in Distance

Toe-In Adjustment
For reducing tire wear Toe-in adjustment is necessary.
In C Platform: 0 to 3 mm less than distance measured at rear of tires.
In D Platform: 0 to 2 mm less than distance measured at rear of tires.
In E Platform:
2WD: 3 to 6 mm less than distance measured at rear of tires.
MFWD: 3 to 6 mm less than distance measured at rear of tires.

Adjustment and Settings

Rolling torque of only pinion without seal value should be 0.8 to1.5 N-m

Rolling torque without seal value should be 2.8 to 5.5 N-m

Adjust the backlash between crown & pinion is 0.15 to 0.20 mm.

Shim Adjustment = Shim at Upper Side- (Backlash King Pin Preload)
