Installing & Setting-up Test Room

What is Test Room?
Test Room is a comprehensive, state of the art desktop based smartclient tool by Vidyamandir Classes which can be used to manage all aspects of Vidyamandirs tests. It helps you download tests, attempt tests with or without an internet connection and submit answer files of these tests for review. Test Room also gives you a convenient way to manage and keep track of all your tests as well as view reports to compare your performance relative to other students.

Advantages of Test Room

Using Test Room, you can: Work with or without internet: Students can use Test Room even if there is no internet connection at their homes. All you need is just a computer and you can take tests using Test Room, as well as submit answer files for these tests and view their result. This is especially useful for students who do not have an internet connection at home or have very low internet bandwidth. Take tests without any headache of Power cuts: Test Room automatically saves a test while a student is taking it. In case, the test is interrupted due to any reason (such as power failure), the student can easily resume the test later without losing any work. Work securely: Test Room provides a secured and encrypted data communication to and from the Vidyamandir Classes server, ensuring that your privacy is always maintained. Customize Test Room to match your style: Test Room offers customization options in terms of color theme of Test Room, as well as the number of questions a student views on each page while taking a test.

Prerequisites
The pre-requisites for installing and running Test Room, a state of the art desktop application to take as well as manage all aspects of Vidyamandir Classes tests are: Windows XP, Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista Operating system. Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 runtime. Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 2.0 SP3 for Microsoft .NET.

Downloading & installing Test Room

To download Test Room, please visit Vidyamandirs website. The Download Test Room page would open where you will find a link to download the application. Click on this link and when prompted, please specify a path to save the setup. To install Test Room on your machine, please follow the under mentioned steps: 1. Double click on the Test Room setup to initiate its installer. 2. Click on the Next button to continue with the setup program. 3. Read the License Agreement and then click on the Next button.

4. You can also choose a different installation path by clicking on the Browse button. Once you have chosen a path, click on the Next button to continue with the installation. 5. Click on the Next button to install Test Room. 6. Installation in Progress 7. After the installation is complete, click on the Close button. Test Room has now been successfully installed on your machine.

Customizing Test Room

You can customize Test Room by clicking on the Settings icon present on the Home page or the Settings link in the left hand pane. Alternatively, you can also choose the Settings option from the File menu. Customization involves choosing a Color theme for Test Room as well as selecting the number of questions which would be displayed per page while taking a test or revising questions. You can also choose to customize settings like automatic download of test upon login, if any test is ready for you, as well as automatic retrieval of solutions file from the server, as soon as you submit a test. The Host address of Vidyamandir server can also be configured from the Settings window. The Host address of Vidyamandir Classes server can also be configured from the Settings window.

Configuring the Appearance Settings

Appearance Settings let you choose a color theme for Test Room to match your style. You can choose a color theme for Test Room by selecting a color along the color scroll bar. You can also select the number of questions to be displayed per page while taking a test. After changing the settings, click on the Apply button to save the settings. You can move back to the default appearance settings of Test Room by clicking on the Default button. Auto Download available test after login lets you download any new test upon login. Ideally, at each login, only the test list is updated and if this option is not checked, tests need to be downloaded manually. Auto download solutions after test submission lets you download solutions to the test submitted by you automatically. If this option is not checked, then you need to download solutions manually for submitted tests. Otherwise, solutions would be automatically downloaded and you can revise the questions in Test Room.

Configuring the Network Settings

Test Room is a smart client application which can connect to the Vidyamandir Classes server from anywhere. The Vidyamandir Classes Host Address refers to the address of the Vidyamandir Classes Server, to which Test Room would connect and from where Test synchronizing, Test downloading, Answer file submission and Solutions file downloading would be executed. Network settings allows you to configure the connectivity of "Test Room. Changing any Network settings, please click on the Apply button to save the settings or click on the Revert button to revert back to the original settings. Please note that if you click on the Apply button after changing the settings, the new settings are saved and then reverting back is not possible.

Getting Tests in Test Room

Once you have subscribed to free practice tests or purchased a new test series, you need to bring these tests in Test Room in order to take them. You can bring tests in Test Room either by

synchronizing Test Room with the Vidyamandir Classes server or by importing tests downloaded from the Vidyamandirs website.

Getting tests if you have internet: Online Mode (Synchronize)

Getting tests in the online mode requires you to have an internet connection i.e. you should be logged on to Test Room with internet connected on your machine. As soon you log on to Test Room, it synchronizes itself with the Vidyamandir Classes server. You will be able to see all the tests associated with you (shown in the Tests List). In order to take the tests shown in the Tests List, you first need to download them. You can do so by clicking on the Sync icon on the Home page or the Sync link in the left hand pane and then selecting Download new Tests. option. Finally, click on the Synchronize button to bring all the tests present in your account to Test Room. Once a test is downloaded, it becomes available to be taken. You can also download each test individually by clicking on the Download Test button appears with each new test present in the Tests List. which

Getting tests if you do not have internet: Offline Mode (Import)

If you do not have internet active on the machine on which Test Room is installed, you can download tests from a computer which has internet access (like from an internet caf). To do this, you need to log on to Vidyamandirs website and then go to the My Tests section

onto a disk or other portable media and bring that test to the machine on which Test Room is installed. Log on to Test Room and then click on the Import icon. This would open a new window. Click on the Browse button and then locate the test which you have bought with you. Next, click on the Import button to get that test into Test Room. After the test is successfully imported, go to the Tests List page where you will see that the test is now available to be taken.

Taking tests & submitting them with Test Room

Once you have got the test in Test Room by either synchronizing or importing, you can take it without requiring an internet connection. After taking the test, you can submit the answer file directly if you have an internet connection or export the tests answer file and upload it at the Vidyamandir website, if you do not have an internet connection.

Starting a Test
Go to the Tests List page or Take Test page. Tests List page shows the complete list of all the tests present in Test Room. Take Test page shows only those tests which are meant to be taken. displayed against a test. Please be very sure before clicking the button because once a test starts, it cannot be halted for intervals. Any action to close the test would generate the answer file and the test cannot be retaken. Therefore, should be clicked with utmost caution. button for any test

Attempting different types of questions
There are five different types of questions which can be present while taking a test. These are: Single choice question: In these questions, amongst the many listed choices, only one is the correct solution or the answer. Choices for the question are listed with radio buttons. Single choice questions can be attempted by selecting the radio button corresponding to the correct answer. Multiple choice question: In these questions, amongst the many listed choices, one or more than one choice can be the correct solution or the answer. Choices for the question are listed with check boxes. Multiple choice questions can be attempted by checking the check box(s) corresponding to the correct answer(s). Fill in the blanks: In these questions, a Four digit blank is to be filled. Only numerals would fit in this blank. Choices for the question are listed in a matrix form, and for 1000s, 100s, 10s and 1s place, a 0-9 numeral listing is given. For e.g., if 1234 is to be entered as answer

in this type of question, in the 1000s row, click on 1, in the 100s row, click on 2, in the 10s row, click on 3 and in the 1s row, click on 4. Match the following: In these questions, a table with two columns is listed. Entities in left column are to be matched with entities in the right column. Any number of entities in the right column can match to a single entity in the left column. Choices for the question are listed in a matrix form, with each entity in the left column mapped to all the entities in the right column. For e.g., if A and B are listed in the left column and 1, 2 and 3 are listed in the right column, and for A, correct matches are 2 and 3 and for B, correct matches are 1 and 3, then A-2 and A-3 are to be clicked in As row and B-1 and B-3 are to be clicked in the Bs row. Passage type question: In these questions, a comprehension is followed by multiple questions. Questions are listed in the usual way, however for each Passage type question, the passage is listed above the question. Passage type questions can be attempted by reading the passage, then the questions and then selecting the options corresponding to the correct answer for each question.

If you feel that you have attempted the question by mistake and now you dont want to attempt the question, click on the button to clear all the marked choices.

Marking a question for Review

Questions can be marked for review by clicking on while taking a test. These marked questions basically represent those questions which are intended to be visited, once other questions, in which you feel more confident, have been attempted. Questions marked for review can be seen by clicking on the button.

Moving to another question or a different section

Moving to another question While taking a test, you can move to the next, previous or an altogether different question. To move to the next/previous question: Click on the Click on the button to move to the next question in the test. button to move to the previous question in the test.

Reviewing Test
Review Test allows you to analyze your test at any time, so that you can view the Attempted, Un-attempted and Marked for review questions. To review your test: button. All the questions which have been marked for review are listed with a Y under the Review header. You can move to any question from the Review table by clicking on the question to select it, and then clicking on the button.

Auto-save feature
Test Room automatically saves your test while you are taking it. In case, the test is interrupted due to any reason (such as power failure), you can easily resume the test later without losing any important work.

Ending Test
You can end a test, either willingly or the test will end by itself, once the duration is over. To end a test: 1. Click on the 2. Click on the button while taking a test. button in the Warning Alert.

Submitting answer file for a test if you have internet: Online Mode (Synchronize)
If you have an internet connection, you can directly submit the answer file for a test, as soon as you finish taking it, by clicking on the button. If you wish to submit the answer files for all the completed tests at a later time, you can do so by clicking on the Sync icon and then selecting the Submit Completed Tests option. Clicking on the Synchronize button submits answer files for all the completed tests to the Vidyamandir server. You can go to the Tests List page to see that the status of the completed tests is now changed to submitted.

Submitting answer file for a test if you do not have internet: Offline Mode (Export & Upload)
If you do not have internet connection, you can submit the answer file for a test by exporting its answer file to a machine which is connected to internet, and then uploading it at the Vidyamandir website. After ending a test, click on the button and save the tests answer file locally on your machine. Store this Answer file in a Storage media like a CD, Floppy or Portable Storage device. Take it to a computer which has internet access and log on to the Vidyamandir Classess website. Please go to My Tests section under My Test Room. Find the test whose answer file is to be icon for this test and then select the Upload Test Solution action. uploaded, click on the Locate the answer file which is to be uploaded and then click on the Upload button. After the answer file is successfully submitted, the status of the test is changed to submitted.

Viewing result with Test Room

You need to have an internet connection in order to view your result. Quick result shows you the percentile scores for all your tests whose result is available. Detailed result consists of 11 comprehensive reports.

Quick Result
Click on the Quick Result link present in the left hand pane. It shows you a list of all the tests whose results are available and the percentile scores are displayed against each test.

Detailed Result
Viewing detailed result navigates you to the My Performance Reports page on Vidyamandir Classess website. On this page, you can choose to view any of the listed reports. To view these detailed reports, click on the Reports icon. This will take you to My Performance Reports page. Click on the desired reports name to see the report. You can also choose to view a specific report by selecting the desired report from the Reports menu. This will show you the report for the most recently submitted test. If you want to see the Test Report for a specific test then select that sets from Change test button in reports page

Revision
Revision lets you catch a quick glance of all the questions which you have got till now in different tests. Some important features of Revision are: Each Question can be marked on a 5 star basis. So, you can tag questions, like difficult questions can be 5 starred, and then use this basis to search questions. Answer and Explanation to each question can be seen by clicking on the button. If all the answers and Explanations are to be seen, then 'Show All Answers and Explanations' option can be checked. Each Explanation carries 'Your Answer', the 'Correct Answer' and the 'Explanation to the Question'. If you have internet, you can get solutions to the tests you have submitted by: Synchronize option: You can use the synchronize option to get the solutions to tests you have submitted. For this, you need to click on the Sync link in the left hand navigation pane and then check on the 'Download Detailed Solutions available for revision' option.

Settings: You can also use the Automatic settings present under Appearance to configure automatic download of the solutions to submitted test. To configure this, please click on the Settings link in the left hand navigation pane and then check the 'Autodownload Solutions after Test submission' option.

Getting Solutions file if you do not have internet: Offline mode

Import Solutions file allows you to import the downloaded Answers and Explanations file from the website. This comes in handy when you do not have internet on your machine. If you do not have internet on your machine, you can: Take test in offline mode. Export answer file and then submit it through the Vidyamandir website. Now, download the Solutions file from the website and import it in Test Room.

To import the Solutions file: 1. Click on the Import Solutions link in the left pane.

You would see Click on the Browse button, and then choose the location of the file. Click on OK button and then on the Import button. The solutions would be imported and you would be able to revise these questions now.

Other Add-ons
Single sign on navigation to website and reports
If you have an internet connection, you can directly navigate to the Vidyamandir Classess website without needing to open a browser and then logging onto the website. Important website functionalities are now just a click away from Test Room. You can edit your profile and buy a new test series by simply choosing the desired option from the Resources menu. You can also view your performance reports by clicking on the Reports icon or by selecting a specific report from the Reports menu.

Test Room automatically saves your test while you are taking it. In case, the test is interrupted due to any reason (such as power failure), you can easily resume the test later without losing any important work.

Quick Result
Quick result lets you see your percentile scores in the tests without being taken to the Vidyamandir Classess website. Clicking on the Quick Result link present in the left pane shows you a list of all the tests whose results are available and percentile scores are displayed against each test. On this page, you can quickly glance through your percentile scores in the tests.

Miscellaneous
Filtering tests
Filtering allows you to view a desired list of tests rather than viewing the complete list. Filtering of tests can be done on Course name and Test Status. To filter the Tests list: 1. Click on the Filter tab. 2. Choose the Course and Test Status on the basis of which you want the Tests list to be filtered.

You can check the Show Archived check box to view the archived tests too.

Sorting tests
You can sort various tests present in the Tests List page or the Take Test page on various parameters like Test Name, Course name, Test Status and Date of Purchase. To sort the list: Click on any of the following headers to sort the list in ascending order. Clicking again on the same header will reverse sort the list.

Searching tests
Searching provides a faster means to view the desired test(s). Searching is a combined result of the entered Search Keyword and the Field you choose i.e. Test Name, Course, Test Status or Date of Purchase. To search test(s):

Click on the Search tab. choose the required field and enter the keyword in the Search keyword field. Click on the Search button to view the search result.

Check the Show Archived check box to view the Archived tests too.

Archiving & Restoring tests

Archiving a test removes it from the Tests list. To archive a test, click on the Archive test icon, for any test and then click on the Yes button in the confirmation alert. Archived tests however can be seen in the tests list page by checking the Show archived box. Archived test can be un-archived or restored by clicking on the Restore test icon, for any archived test.

Logging Off
Log off ends your current session with Test Room. In order to use Test Room again, you need to re-login. Test Room remains open for easy access the next time you, or someone else, logs in. To log off, click on the Log off icon present on the Home page. Alternatively, you can also select the Log off option from the File menu.

Upgrading Test Room to a new version

Each time you log on to Test Room in the Online Mode, it automatically checks for an update and prompts you if a newer version is available. You can directly download & install the newer version by following the instructions on the screen. If you do not have an internet connection, you can download the Test Room from the Vidyamandir Classess website and bring it to your computer. Double click on the new setup and follow the instructions to install the newer version of Test Room. To manually check for an update: 1. Click on the Help menu. 2. Click on the Check for Updates option.

Important Instructions
We would suggest you to refer to the following important instructions: Be punctual in taking your tests and submitting the answer files. Start a test only when you feel you do not need a break in between.

 Once you have taken a test, try submitting its answer file as early as you can. Not submitting the answer file is as good as not taking the test at all. Do not discuss the test with your peers for fair result evaluation. Do not share your Email Id and Password with your friends or peers for your benefit.
