symptoms because they occupy space and crowd neighboring organs. If one of these
persons has a tumor in her abdominopelvic cavity and the other has a tumor his
vertebral canal, which patient would be likely to develop symptoms first? Why?

3. If a patient complained of a stomachache and pointed to the umbilical region as the

site of discomfort, which organs located in this region might be the source of the
pain?

4. If a person has appendicitis ( inflammation of the appendix caused by

bacteria), pain is
felt in which abdominal quadrant? Surgery is usually necessary to remove

appendix before it ruptures and causes peritonitis. Using your knowledge
of the location of
the peritoneum, explain why peritonitis is a very serious condition.
