Men awoke in the year of the first sunrise. They first arrived in Beleriand over the Ered Luin, in flight from the perils of eastern Middle-Earth, a few hundred years after the arrival of the Noldor from Aman. They arrived in clans and settled in vacant places throughout Beleriand at the leave of the Elves. The three main Houses of these men were called the Edain. Many served the Kings of the various Elvish Kingdoms and grew in knowledge. They also performed many heroic deeds and greatly assisted the Elves in their Wars against Morgoth. All the Houses were displaced and decimated by the end of the First age.
The First Age ends with the Assault of the Valar upon Morgoth and his fortress Thangorodrim after arendil pleads with the Valar on behalf of the Two Kindreds. After the victory, many elves go into the west, and the faithful men of the Edain are rewarded with a new land, Nmenor. The sons of arendil are given the choice to be counted Elves or Men. Elrond chooses to be an immortal Elf, while Elros chooses to be counted a man, and becomes the First King of Nmenor. Much of Beleriand is sunk, and the elves move to Lindon.
