Failure to follow this SOP will result in vSquadron disqualification.

1. Overview
What is Hawgsmoke? Hawgsmoke is a real world biennial worldwide A-10 bombing, missile, and tactical gunnery competition. Hosted by the winners of the previous competition, Hawgsmoke is an intense competition and an opportunity to share in the camaraderie and fellowship of the worlds premier Close Air Support fighter, as well as legacy of its pilots and support crews. More details on the real world Hawgsmoke can be found at: http://www.hawgsmoke.com/index.asp What is vHawgsmoke? Virtual Hawgsmoke aka vHawgsmoke is a Virtual Squadron based competition mirroring the real world competition as closely as possible for vSquadrons flying Eagle Dynamics, DCS A-10C. Each participating vSquadron is authorized four pilot slots and will operate as one four ship flight. The 25th vFS Draggins are developing and will host the 2012 vHawgsmoke with the hope that this will become an annual event. What are the vHawgsmoke competition weapons and delivery? Unguided Munitions Events (BDU-33s), Rockets Events (smoke rockets), and Strafing Events (TP GAU8) ammo will be the only authorized ordinance expended during the competition. Unguided munitions events will be delivered in four different ways; Visual Level Delivery (VLD), Low Angle Low Drag (LALD) Pop Up, High Altitude Dive Bomb (HADB), and Medium Altitude Toss (MAT). Two pilots from each squadron will conduct two delivery methods (VLD & LALD, HADB & MAT). Rocket events will be delivered two different ways; Low Angle Rocket (LAR) and High Altitude Tactical Rocket (HATR). All four pilots will accomplish both delivery methods. Strafing events will be delivered two different ways as well; High Angle Strafe (HAS) and Low Angle Strafe (LAS). Like the rocket events, all four pilots will accomplish both delivery methods. A minimum of 50 rounds per strafe event must be expended to satisfy strafe requirements.

2. General Rules
2. Because SOPs very from one vSquadron to another the following items MUST be followed to ensure safe and orderly operations: 2.1. TARs will be used by all participating vSquadrons and all radio broadcasts must be in English. 2.1.1. Any necessary server wide broadcasts will be made on UHF Guard (243.000). All pilots will monitor UHF Guard while in the sim. 2.1.2. Each Squadron will have their own assigned radio presets for Victor and Uniform. All range communications will be on the ranges Fox Mike preset. 2.2. 1st VFW Teamspeak will be used for the competition. Address: ffw.clants.net:3979 Password: luckysniper2008 2.2.1. Teamspeak (and server) names as a minimum will include the pilots Callsign and Squadron. This will ensure there is no confusion for the judges as well as spectators. A few examples: Snoopy-25th-VFS JaBoG32_Laud 74th_Tyger =STP=Dragon FCS_Heater 2.2.2. Teamspeak rules are in Attachment 1 and at the following link: http://www.firstfighterwing.com/forums/showthread.php?5844-Teamspeak-Forum-Rules-and-Regulations 2.3. The 25th vFS Dedicated Server will host the mission. All participating vSquadrons are responsible for being in the server and ACFT at their respective in sim time. This will ensure the competition runs smoothly and on schedule. 2.4. Each ACFT will have the required flight plan already loaded. 2.5. Judging will be by committee. There will be a minimum of four judges but each vSquadron participating may have an individual as a judge. 2.5.1. Judges can not participate in the actual competition. 2.5.2. Judges MUST be available to judge the entire competition.

2. General Rules
2.6. Each squadron is authorized four pilots in the competition and will fly as one four ship flight. 2.6.1. How a squadron identifies who will participate is up to them, the 25th VFS is going to hold an internal vHawgsmoke using this SOP as well as the vHawgsmoke mission and rating criteria to identify their best of the best to participate. 2.7. The total time limit for each vSquadron to complete the range portion is 40 minutes. The clock starts when lead calls In on VLD. At the expiration of 40 minutes, scores will no longer be considered for the competition and Snoopy (paulrkiii) will announce confirm armament safety checks completed over the range frequency. 2.7.1. Aborted Runs. A pilot may abort any weapon run, reposition and reattempt the attach run. This does not count against the score but the timer will continue to count down. 2.8. vSquadrons will provide a point of contact and PM paulrkiii on the ED message boards who that POC is. 2.8.1. The server password will be provided to these individuals who will have then be responsibe to provide the password to their vSquadron pilots participating. 2.9. The event will be broadcasting live on the following livestream channel: 74th The Flying Tigers http://www.74thvirtual.co.uk/live.html 2.10. FCS_Heater created a vHawgsmoke 2012 participant ribbon for users signatures.

4. Ground Operations

4. Ground Operations. Anapa Vityazevo MAB (URKA) will be the primary airfield used during vHawgsmoke. 4.1. The active runway is Runway 04 4.2. Because sim ATC is not modeled the best all ATC communications will be broadcasted on UHF 251.1 (Preset 1). The following radio broadcasts are required: 4.3 . Once all systems are up and in the green taxi to Apron 2 (Staging Area) and await instructions. Flight lead will broadcast Anapa ground, [Flight Callsign] taxing to Staging Area 4.4. vHawgsmoke ATC will direct when to taxi from the staging area to the active runway (holding short) by broadcasting [Flight Callsign], Anapa ground, taxi to runway04, hold shot 4.5. Flight will taxi to and hold short runway 04. Once at the active Flight lead will broadcast Anapa ground, [Flight Callsign] holding short runway 04 4.6. vHawgsmoke ATC will direct when to take the active runway by broadcasting [Flight Callsign], Anapa ground, cleared for takeoff 4.7. Flight will taxi onto the active and proceed with takeoff.

5. After Takeoff

5. Once airborne and crossing waypoint URKA22 Flight Lead will broadcast: [Flight Callsign] airborne, departing Anapa traffic, inbound Hawgsmoke 5.1. Flight will then push to their prebriefed UHF channel 5.2. All range specific (in, base, departing) communications will broadcast on the range FM channel 39.000 (Preset 1).

6. Approach/Landing

6. When returning to Anapa Flight Lead will broadcast on UHF 251.1 (Preset 1): [Flight Callsign] inbound Anapa , XX miles out 6.1. vHawgsmoke ATC will broadcasting (when clear): [Flight Callsign], Anapa ground, cleared to land runway22 6.2. Once on the ground flight will use the entire runway to slow to taxi speeds and taxi to and park at the East Apron (Recovery Area). Once all members of the flight are clear of the active Flight Lead will broadcast: Anapa ground, [Flight Callsign], clear of active 6.3. Once parked Flight Lead will broadcast: Anapa ground, [Flight Callsign], parked 6.4. Pilots are then clear to shutdown their jets and disconnect from the server.

7. Range Operations
7.1. Aborted Runs. A pilot may abort any weapon run, reposition and reattempt the attach run. This does not count against the even score but the timer will continue to count down. 7.2. While operating on the range the following items will be broadcasted over range FM preset (this will ensure the judges have eyes on the correct location): 7.2. All pilots will: 7.1.1. when turning in to range:

[Flight Callsign1 (2, 3, 4)], in [Range Name] HOG1 in VLD

7.1.2. when turning off: [Flight Callsign1 (2, 3, 4)], off [Range Name] HOG1 off VLD 7.1.3. If aborting: [Flight Callsign1 (2, 3, 4)], abort run [Range Name] HOG1, abort run VLD 7.2. Flight Lead will broadcast after completing all ranges: [Flight Callsign], departing Hawgsmoke 7.3. FENCE procedures. When FENCING (arming weapon systems) for the range leave all external lighting on, countermeasures OFF.

8. Weapons Delivery Guidance

8. Each A-10 will have the same weapons load: 6x BDU-33s - 14x Smoke Rockets - 1150 TP
Delivery Type Weapon Type Base Altitude (AGL) Aim Off Distance Initial HUD Placement Initial Aim-Off Angle Safe Escape Manoeuvre Profile Information Weapon Desired Time of Flight Ripple Quantity & Interval Initial Pipper Placement Base Range Track Altitude IFFCC Settings (N/A DCS A-10C)

Recovery Airspeed Release Altitude (AGL) Abort Altitude (AGL) DSMS Fuze Setting Head/Tail Wind Component Cross Wind Component

Aim-off distance (AOD)A distance beyond the target that is predictable for any weapons delivery. That distance is the no-wind projected flight path of an aircraft (where the aircraft would hit the ground if the pilot did not recover) in a dive delivery. Abort Altitude The altitude at which you must abort in order to not frag yourself, avoid a dud weapon and/or recover before the minimum altitude set in the DSMS profile Base Altitude Initial altitude from which the attack run in begins Initial HUD Placement (IHP)IHP is the angle at track altitude between the ZSL and the target, in mils. IHP can be derived from the total mil setting and the value for IPP. Total Mils = IHP + IPP. Initial Aim-off Angle (IAA)IAA is the angle between the AOP and the target at track altitude. Initial Pipper Placement (IPP)Angle between the target to the total solution in mils at track altitude. TrackingA portion of any dive weapons delivery that is devoted to the final alignment of aircraft sighting systems with the target. The amount of time associated is referred to as wings-level or tracking time. Track AltitudeAltitude at which the desired dive angle should be achieved, the target should be under the PBIL and the Pipper should begin tracking up to the target. Zero sight line (ZSL)A basic reference line extending through the fuselage of the A-10 parallel to the longitudinal axis of the aircraft. All sight depressions are referenced from the ZSL TOP TIP Set the depressible pipper to 34 mils to aid in tracking the target. 34 mils (33.7 but 34 is close enough) marks the gun bore line (GBL), this is the depression from the zero sight line where bullets initially exit the gun barrels. The GBL is sometimes used to approximate the aircraft vector on roll-out because the TVV lags behind 11 the actual aircraft flight path while in the turn.

12. Judging
12. Once populated a list of judges will be included in this section. 12.1. Each judge will have their own ACFT located at Krasnodar - Pashkovsky. 12.2. Once in your ACFT request ground power to power radios. 12.3. Judges will have the following radio channels set: Victor: 116.000 (For comms between judges) Fox Mike: 39.000 (Preset 1) (Hawgsmoke Range channel, this will be used so judges know when an ACFT is inbound to a specific range and can ensure they have the proper external view enabled) 12.4. Judges will use F10 to select the correct unit to view for each stage of the competition. Units are named to match the particular delivery method required. 12.4. Judges will score each event in accordance with Section 8, Weapons Delivery Guidance and Section 9, Safe Escape Maneuvers (SEM) of this SOP.

12.5. A score sheet will be supplied to each judge for scoring.

12.6. Squadron scores for each event will be the average of all pilots. For example, for MAT if the four pilots scores are 10, 5, 5, 0 respectively the score for that squadron would be 10+5+5+10= 30/4= 7.5. 7.5 is the vSquadrons score for that (MAT) weapons event. 12.6.1. Reminder for VLD, LALD, HADB, MAT one pilot will only deliver two methods. For example if Pilot1 and 2 deliver VLD & LALD, Pilot3 and 4 will deliver HADB & MAT. 12.7. Hit Scoring will be scored during the competition. Closest hit is scored. 12.7.1. Delivery and SEM will be scored by reviewing Tacview. 12.7.1.1. Upon completion of the competition paulrkiii (Snoopy) will supply each judge with the tacview file form the server. Judges have 7 days to return their completed scoring document to paulrkiii (Snoopy).

12.7.1.2. Any judge that does not supply their final scoring sheet by day 7 will not have their scores included in the final calculation.
12.7.2. paulrkiii (Snoopy) will combine all scores, announce the results and release all scoring data and official tacview file. Release of the data is to ensure show the community that no cheating (ie changing of a judges scores) occurred.

22

12. Judging

Target Scoring Example. Picture shown is an example of a target area, circles will be larger or smaller depending on the event. For VLD, LALD, HADB, MAT, LAR, and HATR: Any hits within the center circle equal 10 points. If no hits in the center circle any hits between the inner and outer circle equal 5 points. For HAS and LAS: Any hits observed impacting the target equal 10 points. Bullet dispersion within the inner circle, not directly impacting the target equals 5 points For all delivery methods, if nothing is inside either circle it equals 0 points.

ATTACHMENT 1, Teamspeak Rules

1. Respect everyone on Teamspeak.
2. No member or guest is allowed to be intoxicated while on our Teamspeak server. 3. No swearing or explicit 'slang' is allowed on the 1st VFW Teamspeak unless in the 'Bad Language channel'. 4. If joining a flight channel where guys are flying and you intend to remain on their channel to listen in, be quiet. It's perfectly ok to listen in to a flight, but don't start a conversation with a buddy who's also listening in while the guys are trying to fly. 5. Do not fly on any of the O-Club channels (the default channel when you sign in). 6. Don't interrupt a debriefing if you weren't part of the flight. 7. Private Channels are for private conversations. Do not enter a private room 1 or private room 2 unless you are invited.

8. Do NOT drag a pilot to another channel without asking him first.

9. When flying, keep comms to a minimum and only related to the flight. 10. Contact the senior wing members when you have a issue or problem with another individual on Teamspeak. 11. Move to the AFK if you step away.

12. Racism of any depth will not be tolerated and will result in instant dismissal from the 1st VFW and all of its activities permanently.
