Spring/ Summer 2014 Internship Opportunities The International Legal Foundation (ILF), a nongovernmental organization based in New York,

is currently seeking law students and exceptional undergraduate students to intern in its offices in New York, Nepal or the West Bank. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the leading global advocate for the right to counsel for the poor. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in all aspects of the ILF's work in developing effective criminal legal aid systems in post-conflict settings. Interns who are able to start their internship in the early spring, may have the opportunity to assist the ILF organize (and may be able to attend) the first international conference on criminal legal aid, scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa June 24-26, 2014. About the International Legal Foundation The International Legal Foundation (ILF) is an international non-governmental organization that assists post-conflict and transitional countries in establishing public defender systems that provide effective, quality criminal defense services to the poor. The ILFs activities include both the provision of legal services, as well as policy advocacy through partnerships with local government, the international community, and other interested NGOs. With projects in Afghanistan, Nepal and the West Bank, and a headquarters office in New York, the ILF currently has over 100 employees worldwide. About the Internship The ILF is seeking 3 interns for the summer of 2014 (exact start and end dates are flexible) to work in our New York office, and 1 intern each for our Nepal and West Bank offices (West Bank interns should speak Arabic). Interns may have the possibility of splitting their summer between New York and either Nepal or the West Bank. Intern tasks may include (but are not limited to): Researching law in countries emerging from conflict or in transition. Writing memos on relevant legal issues. Assisting in the preparation and publication of policy papers, reports, and articles. Assisting in drafting grant applications and other fundraising materials. Researching law in countries emerging from conflict or in transition. Helping implement and improve data collection methods in our country offices. Creating material for social media and other public outreach. Assisting all aspects of preparation for an international criminal legal aid conference in South Africa, for which the ILF is a co-host.

Ideal interns will have the following skills/experience: Commitment to issues of social justice, interest in indigent defense Exceptional research and writing skills Outstanding organizational skills Ability to work independently and to multi-task effectively Flexibility and enthusiasm for working in a fast paced environment Experience with Adobe Creative Suite Familiarity with social media campaigns for NGOs Past experience working in the international development, indigent defense, and/or NGO sector a plus Cultural sensitivity and cross cultural communication skills Arabic or Nepali language skills a plus (West Bank interns should speak Arabic) Some preference may be given to applicants who are able to provide a few hours per week during the Spring Semester to help coordinate details of our international conference in South Africa at the end of June
