Typhoon Yolanda visited Visayas Typhoon Haiyan, also known as Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, was an exceptionally powerful

tropical cyclone that devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, in November 8, 2013 with winds reaching 235 mph the strongest ever recorded to make landfall in the central Philippines, bringing strong winds and heavy rains that have resulted in flooding, landslides, and widespread damage. Yolanda has been called the most powerful storm to make landfall in recorded history. As to the report of the Official Gazette, the cyclone caused catastrophic destruction in the Visayas, particularly the provinces of Leyte and Eastern Samar, with a combined population of 2.3 million, and which experienced sustained winds of 270 kph, gusts of up to 312 kph, and a storm surge as high as 7 meters or 21 feet. Presidential Proclamation No. 682, dated November 11, 2013, declared a State of National Calamity, affecting Samar, Leyte, Cebu, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, and Palawan. As to the current report of the Government of the Philippines and Department for Social Welfare and Development dated 13 Jan 2014, 14.1 million people were affected and 4.1 million people displaced. As to the casualties: Deceased: 6201, Injured: 27665 and Missing: 1785 (Official Gazette dated January 2, 2014).

Tejero, Mancia and Cadelia attend the NorMinCoHRD Committee Meeting

Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development conducted a Committee Meeting to all member institutions in Region 10 on September 13, 2013 at DOH-CHD Conference Room, Carmen, Cagayan de Oro. Iligan medical Center College, a member institution was represented by Dr. Helen S. Tejero, member of the Research Managing Committee; Mr. Jose Dennis O. Mancia, member of Capability Building Committee; and Ms. Annie Rose C. Cadelia, member of Ethics Review Committee. One of the agendum discussed in the meeting was the sharing of NorMinCoHRD delegates during the PNHRS. Several research proposals were approved under PCHRD funding including Cadelia and Tejeros research proposal.

IMCC participates in the 19th National Correctional Consciousness Week

Lord, help us to see the goodness of our neighbours was the theme of the 19 th National Correctional Consciousness Week held on October 21-27, 2013 at Iligan City Jail, Tipanoy, Iligan City. The celebration was initiated by different groups and institutions including Iligan Medical Center College. As one of the participating institutions, IMCC sponsored the activities during the first day with a Legal Forum with Atty. Vermin Quimco and inmates, Lecture Concert of the IMCC Kapagintaw band and other performances from selected Social Work and Criminology students. Mr. Reynaldo O. Mancia, Mr. Jose Dennis O. Mancia, Maricel L. Gelsano, Mr. Jerry Orquillas and Ms. Annie Rose C. Cadelia actively participates the activity. On Sunday October 27, 2013, the activity culminates with a mass wedding officiated by Hon. Mayor Celso Regencia and ICJ dance festival contest among selected dancing inmates per cell.
