Children with juvenile diabetes usually have to administer four to five shots of insulin per day.

Insulin does not cure diabetes but enables children with type 1 diabetes to live out normally lives and enables the pancreas to break down glucose from the foods they eat. Individuals must keep a close eye on their blood sugar and sugar intake in order to regulate the amount of insulin needed and to keep the body in healthy working order. This can be done from the home with a simple blood sugar reader. In regulating the amount of sugar intake one can keep track of the insulin needed and the amount of food to eat and when to eat.

What do you know about Juvenile Diabetes in kids?

What is Juvenile Diabetes? Many people are unsure of what this actually is. Well, diabetes is a chronic metabolic condition caused by the bodys inability to break down glucose or sugar and then store them properly. When an individuals system is unable to efficiently process glucose, it will back up in the persons bloodstream creating multiple health problems. Over thirty thousand individuals will be diagnosed with diabetes this year alone. It is estimated that over one hundred and twenty million individuals worldwide have diabetes. It is further estimated that approximately five million individuals have diabetes that has yet to be diagnosed. There are currently two types of diabetes that are recognized. Type 1 and type 2 Diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is the one called juvenile diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is called Juvenile Diabetes as the onset of it begins in childhood. Children diagnosed with juvenile diabetes are insulin dependent. Insulin is the hormone that enables our body to convert the food we eat into energy, which is necessary to function. Current research indicates that juvenile diabetes is an autoimmune disorder, similar to other disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. A small percentage of individuals may also develop thyroid conditions. There are symptoms to be aware of if you suspect your child has type 1 diabetes. Symptoms can include: excessive thirst, frequent urination, irritability, nausea and vomiting, exaggerated hunger, although weight loss can occur, chronic weakness and fatigue, or blurred vision. If your child has any of these symptoms he or she should be examined by a doctor to test for type 1 diabetes. Treatment for type 1 diabetes, or juvenile diabetes, includes taking a natural hormone called insulin. In type 1 diabetes the pancreas cannot and will not manufacture insulin on its own. Without this natural hormone, insulin, the body cannot metabolize glucose or sugars from the food we eat and then turn it into energy. Insulin is essential in order to live out your daily life.
