Chapter 1 Geometric Constructions

Figure Q1 shows a hook. Draw the hook using the scale 2:1. The centres A to I of the arcs must be marked + and labelled accordingly. All tangent points must be marked and labelled as TP. All dimensions are shown in millimetres. Dimensioning is not required. Construction lines may be shown but must be thin (0.3mm).

Figure Q2 shows a highway interchange. Draw the interchange using the scale 1:10. The centres A to D of the arcs must be marked + and labelled accordingly. All tangent points must be marked and labelled as TP. All dimensions are shown in millimetres. Dimensioning is not required. Construction lines may be shown but must be thin (0.3mm).

Figure Q3 shows the head of a wrench. Draw the wrench in full scale. The centres A to D of the arcs must be marked + and labelled accordingly. All tangent points must be marked and labelled as TP. The ellipse must be constructed using the four-centre method and the centres must marked +. The unknown radius R must be determined by construction lines. All dimensions are shown in millimetres. Dimensioning is not required. Construction lines may be shown but must be thin (0.3mm).

Figure Q4 shows a special S-wrench. Draw the S-wrench in full scale. The centres A to F of the arcs must be marked + and labelled accordingly. All tangent points must be marked and labelled as TP. The unknown radius R must be determined by constructing ogee curves. All dimensions are shown in millimetres. Dimensioning is not required. Construction lines may be shown but must be thin (0.3mm). 160 32 A D

Figure Q5 shows a badminton racquet frame. You will be given a real racquet to trace the outer shape of the racquet frame on a drawing paper. After that, divide the racquet frame into several parts where each part is approximated by an arc constructed using three-point method. Use the following guides: 1. Use blue pen to trace the racquet frame. 2. The racquet frame must be divided into as few parts as possible. 3. The centre of each arc must be marked + and labelled clearly. 4. The approximated arcs must be as close as possible to the actual racquet frame.
