Spare Part Sealing Kit for SpeedCoat Control Modules, Generation II

Disassembling and Cleaning the Control Module

F1 F1 1 3 NOTE: When repairs have been performed, the control module is no longer considered new. A repaired control module will not have the same long service life as a new control module. Nordson cannot provide a guarantee for the repaired control module. 1. Before beginning repairs, check that the spare parts kit is complete (Refer to Parts List). Have all tools, cleaning agents and lubricants needed for repair work ready. 2. Release the two screws F1 and extract the control module from the application head. 3. 8 9 10 11 11 Release the two screws F2 and remove the cylinder lid (3); replace the muffler (4).

4 6

4. Brace the hexagonal head of the nozzle stem (21) in a vice or a collet chuck. 5. Unscrew the hexagonal nut (5). 6. Extract the control piston (7) with a pin-type face wrench (Refer to Required Tools). Extract the spring (9).

7. Extract the nozzle stem. 8. Clamp the cylinder (12) in a vice or similar device and unscrew the socket block (15). Check the cylinder contact surfaces for wear; replace cylinder if necessary. 9. Detach the socket block (15) and nozzle insert (19). Hold the socket block with the mandrel. Release the socket block using a sickle wrench and detach. 10. Extract the socket block from the cylinder. 11. Remove the shaft seals (13) and guiding washer (18) from the socket block (15). 12. Remove all Orings and seals. CAUTION: Use only a suitable tool to detach the shaft seals (13). Ensure that the cylinder contact surfaces (12) are not damaged during disassembly. Scratches will cause leakage! The cylinder must then be replaced. The shaft seals (13) are damaged during disassembly and must be replaced. 13. Clean the nozzle insert (19) and nozzle stem (21) in a bath. CAUTION: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions when using cleaning agents! Read the Manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and product information concerning the cleaning agent thoroughly.

Replacing Shaft Seals

CAUTION: The guiding washer (1) may be attached only by using a special assembly tool (T) (Refer to Required Tools). Use the bracing plate (P) for assembly. 1. Lubricate the guiding washer and the shaft seals (13) thoroughly before assembly. Also lubricate the contact surfaces of the assembly tool well (Refer to Processing Materials).

2. Insert the socket block (15) in the bracing plate (P) such that the larger diameter (M 16 x 1) is on top. 3. Place the centering sleeve (Z) on the socket block. 4. Insert a new guiding washer (18) in the socket block with the aid of the assembly tool (T). 5. Use a finger to insert a new guiding washer (13) in the socket block. The shaft seal will lock into place. 6. Turn the socket block around and insert the second shaft seal.

Assembling Control Module

1 2 1. Lubricate all new shaped seals and grooves before assembling (Refer to Processing Materials). 2. Replace the form seals. Look in the cylinder lid to see which seals it is intended to accommodate.

Fig. 3

Preparing Nozzle Stem

1. Apply activator (Refer to Processing Materials) to the nozzle stem thread and allow the solvent contained in the activator to air for 15 minutes. 2. Brace the hexagonal head of the nozzle stem (21) in a vice or a collet chuck. 3. Slide the mounting sleeve (M, Fig. 4) onto the nozzle stem thread. The sleeve protects the contact surfaces and the shaft seals from damage (Refer to Required Aids). M

Preparing and Assembling Nozzle Insert

1. Lubricate the nozzle insert Orings and grooves (Refer to Processing Materials). 2. Press the Orings into the nozzle insert grooves. 3. Place the PTFE washer on a level, clean surface and click the nozzle insert straight into the PTFE washer. 4. Assemble the nozzle insert and the socket block along with the cylinder and then slide over the nozzle stem (21). CAUTION: Do not damage the shaft seals (13). 5. Remove the mounting sleeve (M, Fig. 4) from the nozzle stem thread. 6. Slide the spring (9, Fig. 1) onto the nozzle stem (21).

(contd.)

7. Screw the control piston (7) onto the nozzle stem (21) until it sits firmly in the cylinder (12). Then unscrew revolution. 8. Apply a drop of screw retention adhesive (Refer to Processing Materials) to the nozzle stem thread. 9. Brace the control piston (7) with a pin-type face wrench to prevent it from slipping. Fasten the hexagonal nut M3 (5) and tighten with a torque wrench (1.2 Nm).

Fig. 6

NOTE: The nut (5) distributes the screw retention adhesive along the part of the thread that is used. 10. Check the dimension 0.3 "0.1 mm (0.012 "0.0004 inch); adjust if necessary and check again. 11. Remove excess screw retention adhesive. NOTE: The screw retention adhesive must be allowed to dry at room temperature for 24 hours. 12. Put the cylinder lid (3) in place and screw (F2) it onto the cylinder (12).

Installing Control Module

The control module is a high precision, valuable part. Handle very carefully! 1. Apply high temperature grease (Refer to Processing Materials) (arrows, Figure 7):

S To the O-rings S To the screw threads S Under the screw heads.

2. Insert the new control module carefully, taking care not to tilt it. NOTE: When the control module is slid into the body, the two O-rings cause some resistance that must be overcome. When the white washer on the cylindrical part with the detection holes is on the body, the control module has been slid in far enough. 3. Screw in the screws (F1) alternately and secure by hand. 4. Set the torque wrench to 2.7 Nm and tighten the screws.
Fig. 7

5. Reconnect air and electrical connection. NOTE: Observe the voltage stated on the ID plate of the solenoid valve.
