Can you afford an explosion?

Explosion protection is required if a risk assessment defines an explosion hazard which cannot be avoided by applying preventive measures. While preventive measures can avoid the event, explosion protection measures limit the effects of the event such that employees, machines and environment are safe. For the design of a protection concept rely on our extensive experience in the field of industrial explosion protection and knowledge in national and international directives and guidelines. Mainly, however, the risk assessment defines which protection measure is suitable for the particular process. INCOM explosion protection helps reduce costly production downtime following an unmitigated explosion occurrence and helps promote a good corporate image in the community. A safe working environment enhances confidence and morale in a company. Motivated employees are the best guarantee of high productivity and continuous quality improvement.

In production facilities the explosion protection means are designed as stand-alone systems and therefore installed with process independent sensors.

Multi-zone control unit EX-8000

Explosion multi-sensor MEX-3 for monitoring the apparatus to protect

Field connection box FAB-3 for conditioning MEX-3 signals

The explosion multi-sensor MEX-3 recognizes the hazard at an early stage by detection of pressure rise (dp/dt) or a static pressure threshold.

Explosion multi-sensor MEX-3 pressure

Explosion multi-sensor MEX-3T pressure and temperature

Explosion multi-sensor MEX-3F pressure and flame

Explosion multi-sensor MEX-3HT pressure (high temperature application)

Explosion protection on ethylene oxide reactor

Explosion suppression on dryer

Optical detector IR-13 for spark and flame detection in duct work

Explosion Suppression
Nipped in the bud

EN 14373

Explosion suppression systems are designed to prevent the generation of high pressures by fuel-air explosions in vessels. Explosion suppression systems do not prevent an explosion from occurring but mitigate its effects on the protected equipment. The flame front is extinguished at the early stages of the explosion development, considerably reducing the risk of post-explosion fires and secondary explosions events.

FHRD extinguisher Firewolf 5 l / 20 l

Explosion Venting
Focused relieved

EN 14797

Explosion venting devices are designed to open at the incipient stages of an explosion event and are sized to ensure that the rising pressure does not exceed that of the pressure shock resistance of the vessel.

Notice:

After the explosion pressure has been released by a venting device, it is likely that flame will still be present which can then lead to a post-explosion fire or secondary explosion occurrence. To avoid subsequent damage fire protection systems are highly recommended.

Explosion Isolation
Well-delineated

EN 15089

In order to reduce the risk of flame transfer to connected plant items and processes, explosion isolation devices can be employed. Mechanical devices such as fast acting valves also prevent pressure waves damaging connected plant. Suppressant barriers are rapidly established (even on very large ducts) and effectively extinguishing the propagating flame front.

Some conveying and process feed systems also provide effective explosion isolation under the EN15089 directive.
